If you’re going to be cooking, baking, measuring out coffee, or any number of tasks in the kitchen, you’re going to need a food scale. It doesn’t have to be expensive (I saw on TV that a famous chef uses a $15 food scale) – but it must be ACCURATE and fairly easy to use. Before you start using this scale, be aware of what “taring” means. Taring means that your scale can subtract the weight of the container BEFORE you actually measure whatever it is you want to measure (e.g., cereal, blueberries, butter, etc.). To do this 1) turn on the scale by lightly touching the on/off/TARING button; 2) put your container on the scale; 3) hit the TARE button again at which point the scale will register “0” (i.e., the machine has subtracted the weight of the container); 4) start to add whatever ingredients you want to measure into the container. You can change the metrics along the way e.g., from ounces to grams by tapping the button on the right marked UNIT. If you don’t have a container and just want to measure ingredients, just turn on the scale and put your ingredients on the scale – without hitting the “TARE” button. Easy peasy. You turn the scale off by lightly touching the on/off/TARE button for about 3 seconds. If this is confusing, I suggest you watch a YT video – just search “how to use a food digital scale” – if you’re a visual learner like me, this is the best way to learn how to use this, even though it is fairly simple. Now, how do you determine the quality of a good digital food scale? From my research these are the main criteria: -- Easy to read the screen. -- Easy to clean. -- Easy to use. -- Light weight & easy to store. -- Durability. -- Accurate. -- Battery/charge life. -- Quality of build. -- Measure in both metric and imperial units. -- Water & dust protection. This scale does well on all these criteria, in my opinion. I’m not sure of its durability but it seems well manufactured with quality materials. And, it is easy to use, cleans quickly, and, most importantly, it is CONSISTENTLY accurate as evidenced by the fact that doesn’t give different readings if you measure the same ingredients several different times. There are other digital scales that may have a few more features (e.g., a timer) – or may have a larger platform for larger bowls. But this scale is a good product at a very reasonable price – and I would recommend it.

I use this in a bakery to scale out ingredients. I like that it has a generous surface size (I ordered the sky blue which is larger than the cheaper models). My bakery weighs ingredients in kilograms, so it's nice to have the kg unit available. Here are some things I am not fond of: - When weighing ingredients in kilograms it sometimes jumps between values by a few grams, until it finally settles down to a specific value. Would be nice if this could be improved. I haven't used any of the other units provided by the scale, so I can't say whether this occurs on those settings. - No "hold" feature, and no way to turn off the automatic timer. I've only used it for two days now, so I will certainly report back if anything goes wrong.

After I ordered this, the product page changed and the images disappeared and it said it was out of stock and unavailable, so I had no idea if I would even get it, and low expectations for if I did. But when it did arrive eventually, it surpassed those expectations. For starters, it's really sleek and modern-looking with the tempered glass, and I so appreciate that it's rechargeable, since I am trying to move away from needing to buy a million batteries (although it does come with two batteries to be a backup if the charge is empty, so I did put those in at least). I tested it with 5g and 20g weights, as you'll see in my photos, and it performed way better than expected. It was typically accurate, though did oscillate between 1g low and "correct." But regardless, it was definitely within an acceptable margin of error and "good enough" for me and my purposes (Note it struggled more the smaller the weight was). But even so, I was super impressed with how accurate it was right out of the box. It's marketed as a kitchen scale, but with its size and the fact that it's washable, it can come in handy for far more things. The touch controls really elevate it and make it feel much more expensive, which is just a little thing that I appreciate. I definitely see myself getting quite a bit of use out of this as the holiday season approaches!
