Brand name done right
I was buying bobbins and a bobbin threader at the same time. I looked at all the bobbins that came with the threader and while some claim the bobbin threader worked great, others said they didn't. I found the DMC threader and went with it. For $5 you really just can't go wrong. It turns easily, it's extremely easy to get that little stopper in and out, it's easy to put a new bobbin in, and it holds to the container exactly as it should. If you want quality, pay the $5 and get it.

Useful for those with arthritis...
I purchased this winder because I had about 400 skeins of floss I really needed to organize onto bobbins. I have arthritis in my hands that makes it difficult for me to grip something as thin as floss bobbins, especially for the length of time it would take me to wind 400 of them. I've had a good experience with this product... I'm not sure it really sped up the time it would take to wind bobbins by hand for someone who is easily able to grip both the bobbin and floss, but given how frequently I would have to stop and take breaks were I to attempt doing it by hand, several weeks worth of winding was done in days instead. I did have to do a bit of trial and error to find which of my floss boxes this would clip onto correctly. The back of the package it came in had no instructions for how to attach it to a floss box. I don't know if they're all like that or not, but I guess I was a bit dense - it took me a bit of fiddling to realize I needed to attach it not just to the side of the box, but so that it straddled a divider. Basically, it goes anywhere that the dividers in your box form a "T" with the side of the box. Once I got that sorted, using this was a breeze. My husband used some Duck Tape to attach a longer/thicker handle to the actual winder handle, thus making it even more comfortable for my hand while winding. I didn't experience the squeaking another buyer noted, at least not any that was loud enough for me to notice. With all that said, I'm giving it four stars for a few reasons... 1) It isn't particularly sturdy. I don't expect this to still be in one piece a few years down the road. It just seems pretty flimsy. 2) The lack of instructions on the packaging annoyed me. 3) There was a small amount of dirt and debris inside the plastic clamshell holding the winder to the card. It did not look as if it had been opened, resealed and returned... but there was also a small black smudge on the winder. I'm not sure what caused this, but when I'm buying something new, I expect to receive a new item... not a damaged, used or aesthetically "off" item. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase. It did the job I needed it to, and I do expect I'll use it again. At the very least, it certainly saved me some grief with my hands. When this one breaks - and as noted, I expect it to - I likely would buy another one. It's an inexpensive item that for me WAS worth the price and would be again.

great item, just cost more here
I ordered this as a add, so order $25.00 same as prime, so it got here fast, that was great This bobbin winder works great. there is just one thing it is hard to mark the bobbins with the color number, that is more of a design flow in the bobbin not the winder. the little peg that holds the bobbin in the winder is a little hard to work with, it is hard to push in and then to remove, may-be with time it will get loser making it easier to work with. One other thing, that really bothers me. That is when I buy something, then find it somewhere else cheaper. There is only one thing worse than that that is finding it cheaper, that is allot cheaper. That is what happen to me with this, after I got it. I went to wal-mart and saw this for a dollar something (under $2.00). Big bummer I just paid $4.84 for this and here it is not on sell just $1.84. I could have bought two and had money left over!! Oh well live and learn. Do not get me wrong I really do like this seller I have gotten some really good deals from them, It is just that I found this one item cheaper.

Not very useful and way overpriced
I've got a large collection of DMC floss and was hoping this gadget might make the chore of transferring it all to bobbins a bit easier. I found it to be a bit clumsy to use, and it wasn't a time saver at all. The cardboard bobbins from DMC don't quite work with this either, which I thought was strange. I'm keeping this because it will cost me more to return than I paid for the item. Also, if you have a JoAnn Fabrics nearby, this item is sold there for 1.99. Typically Amazon has better pricing on most items, but this wasn't the case. Live and learn...

Easy button
Bobbin winding is not hard, but this sucker makes it like a dream. I kid you not, when my baby went to bed last New Year's Eve, I sat down with a glass of wine, tons of thread and this winder and had a cozy little night with my hubs. UPDATE: I’ve read a few reviews saying this takes longer than doing it by hand... yes, it does. However, the bobbins I’ve done by hand are not nearly so neat and tidy as the ones I do on the winder. Also, I’ve found that placing it on the thickest past of my box helps keep it from jerking about and popping off while winding. I’ve included pictures of where exactly I mount it on my box, as well as what a finished bobbin looks like afterwards.

Yup. Does what it says it does.
If you have very many bobbins to wind, I'd suggest going to Harbor Freight and getting a cheap drill to wind them. But for just a handful, this thing is super handy. Clips right onto my bobbin sorter box. And it costs almost nothing too.
