This is an excellent movie. Well cast and very entertaining.

Arrived on time, it's a good quality dvd but there is no credit leaflet enclosed. I remember the first time this move was realised and I could never find any copies around the web, I don't think it did that well on its realise but it's one I remember. A very theatrical movie, in the british film industry. Glad I've got this again in my collection. I did have this on vhs (video) but it disappeared in a tardis somewhere. Five star because its brand new, quality picture.. mostly has described and what to expect from dvd. Came in sealed packaging. Enjoy.

Long time Peter Greenaway fan. Video replacement therapy. Everyone in this film is on top form. Especially Mirren and Gambon. Ian Dury doesn't seem out of his depth either! Good stuff!😃

Decadent, decadent and even more decadent. Decadent story dressed up in mind-blowing outfits created by Jean Paul Gaultier, with incredible, changing background stenography building up the story and playing with the viewer. Outstanding performance by Helen Mirren, every actor should do that once - do something provocative - for her that was act in this Peter Greenaway's movie. Film shows how tricky human nature can be and how low and high we can get. Once you see this movie you will never forget it. Movie was produced in 1990, in 2009 that would be even politically incorrect to talk about it. Personally I know many people who are ashamed to admit that they ever seen this movie. This movie is a masterpiece, but without open minded approach can be easily misunderstood or criticized. It is smart and deep analysis of our nature and our capabilities. It is not `family' entertainment though. If you like and find yourself in books by Boris Vian or artwork of Salvadore Dali you will love this movie.

Peter Greenaway does not do usual mainstream films. If you want a film that is unusual, striking and very different, give this a look.

I first watched this on a movie channel one night & let me tell you I hadn't laughed so much in a long time! If you're easily offended or don't like dark comedies I recommend that you don't watch & stick to the softer stuff as this film holds nothing back. Michael Gambon is electrifying as the crude restaurant owner who's vileness holds no boundaries....some of the things he says & does - WOOOW lol. This is a weird but brilliant film at the same time which I HAD to order from Amazon & add to my film collection.....A MUST WATCH!

Saw this film when it first came out and it left an indelible impression on me. The film is violent in places, crude but very funny black humour. Michael Gambon is truly superb, as is Helen Mirren. As has been said elsewhere its not going to everyone's taste. But if you want an unusual tail of love and brutality set in a magnificent opulent restaurant this film will delight. Helen Mirren's naked form is also a bonus and adds to the films eroticism. Highly recommended lol.
