My wi-fi connection to my router (within arm's reach of my laptop) has been plagued with wild swings in speed and occasional cut-outs. As I mainly use my laptop at home rather than on the move, I got around that in the past by using the ethernet port and hard-wiring my internet connection. But my new laptop, admirable though it may be otherwise, does not have an ethernet socket. Enter this USB adaptor, which plugged in to my laptop, connected straight away and didn't give me any nonsense. I have since relocated it to my USB hub, just for neatness. Out of curiosity, I tried it with an USB-C to USB-A adaptor, but that didn't connect. I don't know the spec of the adaptor, though. Therefore I have also ordered a version with a USB-A plug to connect another item that doesn't have any available C type sockets.
