A lavishly illusttrated book
As an avid street photographer myself, I was instantly interested in Fred Herzog when i stumbled across some of his photos online. Checking with Amazon, I deiscovered this book and decided to take a chance to order it. When it arrived, I was surprised to see how big and heavy it was, and filled with the most beautifully printed photographs and essays. there's enough in this book to keep me occupied for months. What a marvellous find.

Get it you are into color street photography
While there are many great street photographers that shot in color I find Fred's work a bit more special regarding that field. It is like colors are the main theme of the photos with the rest of the elements in his pictures as fine garnish. Everything serves the colors. This is a solid 5/5 for anyone enjoying color photography in general let alone street photography. A must have for me.

Brilliant photography and social history
This superb book celebrates the quiet genius of photographer Fred Herzog. Over a number of decades, Herzog, a German-born migrant to Canada, captured the changing nature of life in Vancouver. Modern Color captures a comprehensive range of his work, and at the same time shows the changes the city experienced during that time. His clever use of colour becomes apparent in a careful study of the images, and notably the colour red features a lot, making it hard to look through these pictures without sometimes thinking of Nicholas Roeg's film "Don't Look Now". Accompanied with some thought-provoking essays on the nature of colour photography, Herzog's importance and the changing nature of the Vancouver landscape, this really is a book you can get lost on. The images from the 1950s through to more recent times show the beauty in everyday settings and situations and at the same time capture a world that has gone for ever. Mesmerising.

Top Quality Book.
Wow! Just got mine today. What a heavy high quality book. Its built like a tank. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but I've flicked through most of the photographs (and there's a LOT) and what a great photographer Fred was. You really do get your moneys worth with this. Its not a hardcover with a moderate amount of photos, its a hardcover, good quality, with LOTS of photos. I'm very pleased.

Bigger and better than expected
This book is actual is actually bigger, heavier and better than expected, especially for the price. Glazed paper with quality prints (colours and contrast), clear layout with enough negative space so it doesn't feel crammed, hard cover with embossed letters (front and back). That's the best present I could offer to myself.

Great book
A great book with many fine examples of Fred Herzog's work. Despite the book title there are a handful of monochrome images. The book and the reproduction of the images are both first class.

What is left to say - few books deserve 5* but this publication excels. Mostly images taken thru the 50's-70's but truly a master artists' catalogue.
