Is this chilli powder a blend? Or just chilli powder?

The Fifth or #5 thumbnail image from the top down along side the larger first one at top of page clearly shows this is a BLEND. It contains spices and salt and garlic powder along with chili of course and a chemical to keep it from clumping. Yummmy. Ok I buy it so I'm being silly. Anyway this is a blend. However the person who said all chili powders are blends not so. I've bought for years true chili's that are powdered or whole and I powder or break up or leave whole depending on my recipes. I make my own from scratch pickling spices and we like all our sweet pickles HOT and I like mine EXTRA Hot. Hubby not so much though in the day he loved my hot and hottest versions. However some years back I became sensitive to jalopeno's and from that time on now and again certain capsican species do upset my tummy. (I was diagnosed with 5 ulcers a few years back and not related to any bacteria cause like H. pelori and worse allergic severly to PPI's and H2's too which treat Ulcers. Anyway I now have to be a little more careful. But I still love my chilli and chillis Spiced up. I often add some very HOT powdered whole chili's that have very HOT ranking on their charts or heat indexes to my various chili blends. Just saying. But shop around for a variety of real different species of chili's that are mild to HOT and come in powdered form too. Many do not need to have anti clumping chems either. And a little goes a long ways. We use a spice grinder to make some of our own up and some of our own all pepper blends up too. And mortal and pestle works well for my pickling spices. And I usually just snap up my japan chili's both green and reds. Some hotter than others. I used to use a different chili but they are very hard to find these days in NW MT. In Fort Collins CO over 30 years ago we found a lot more variety of pepper species in the stores in the Mexican food and specialty departments. Today we are stuck mail ordering. However we do quite well. This is a generic form of chili powder we use in basic chili and chili soups. But we do spice it up ourselves. Also my husband likes their regular non dark blend too. I find it too salty for my taste and have to be very careful not to over salt a dish because it has too much in it. This has salt too but maybe not quite as much. More my opinion than actually tested by any scientific means.

How is dark chili powder different than the regular kind?

Rosita (dark chili powder) and Pacheco (Mild chili powder are the same in flavor and heat levels. They can be substituted in equal amounts. Both are mild. ~ Erica

Is this a genuine McCormick product? Look at the review that shows two different colors with the same product.

Yes it is a genuine McCormick product. In our family Chili Powder is pretty much of a staple. We use it in many of our regular dishes and McCormick is our preferred brand and this is the genuine article.
