Despite what you might have read about soldered RAM, it in fact has a two DIMM sockets, I purchased an additioanl 4GB RAM for £14.99 and it worked, (make sure its seated correctly and you do have to remove the 3.5 inch drives to gain access. I added dual NVME drives, a spare SATA SSD and a 16GB Toshiba enterprise drive and it was up and running in minutes. I then used Hybrid backup on mty TS433 to sync photos from there to the 262, (this was much faster than copying) and set Qumagie to work, the Coral EDGE USB TPU AI unit works perfectly with this btw. I also added another 2.5Gbe port via a USB adapter and its a little powerhouse with very fast transfers. As well as the TS433 I also have a synology DS224+ and this is a better NAS as its 2.5Gbe, expandable to up to 32GB of RAM and has dual NVME slots, only the CPU being dual core holds it back. if it was a quad core, this would be unbeatable. My next upgrade will be a 10Gbe and NVME expansion via the PCI-E slot :) If you are wondering whether to buy this, the answer is yes.

Entgegen der Beschreibung sind die 4 GB RAM nicht fest verlötet. Es können somit 2 Speichermodule mit jeweils 8 GB, also 16 GB (Dual Channel) insgesamt verbaut werden. Ich habe zwei Toshiba S300 4 TB Platten im RAID 1 Verbund (klassisch, kein Speicherpool oder Snapshot) verbaut. Das QNAP T-262 steht im Wohnzimmer und die Geräuschkulisse wird nur durch die sanft klackernden Platten getrübt. Ab Mitternacht schaltet sich das System ab und startet erst wieder gegen 6 Uhr; und somit ist es auch in der Wohnung ruhig. Der verbaute intel N4205 Prozessor bietet mehr als genug Leistung für meine Aufgaben (zentraler Speicher und PLEX-Server). Der Zugriff zum iPhone und MacBook erfolgt über SAMBA (unterwegs über Wireguard VPN) und reizt die Festplatten voll aus. Ich werde den Speicher noch auf 16 GB RAM erhöhen und zwei NVME-SSDs (SSD-Cache) einbauen, das soll die Übertragungsleistung in meinem 2,5 Bit/s Netzwerk dann voll ausreizen. Die QNAP-Software bietet eine Firewall, einen Sicherheitsassistenten, Virenschutz und vieles mehr - inkl. Docker-Unterstützung. Alle Software (Foto, Bilder, Multimedia ...), die ich nicht benötige, habe ich deinstalliert, da ich nur den PLEX-Server (Kaufversion) benötige, hier läuft alles rasend schnell und die Zusammenarbeitet mit dem Apple TV 4K funktioniert tadellos. TimeMachine und RSYNC (Backup über externe 4 TB HDD) ließen sich problemlos einrichten. Meine iCloud-Fotos (iPhone) werden automatisch mit der QNAP-App auf dem Server synchronisiert und somit bin ich nicht nur von der iCloud abhängig. Ich bin rundum zufrieden mit diesem System und kann nur hoffen, das QNAP lange Updates anbietet.
