I got these for an off-label use because I needed to drill accurately positioned holes in manufactured wood materials like MDF and particle-board. The brad-point ensures the hole ends up where I want it even without a jig. I'll be using these in a cordless drill and in my drill press. There's a flat on one side of the shank which is used in their intended application and you have to make sure that's between the chuck jaws so the drill runs concentric. That's only a factor when using it off-label like I am. By the way, 8 mm is almost exactly 5/16" (.0025 under) so these will work fine for 5/16" holes. These are brazed carbide tipped on a body I expect is high-speed steel (HSS). The grind is clean and accurate, which is what matters most because that's the business end of the tool. There is almost no rake, so these exhibit more of a scraping action. That seems to work fine in my trial bores. Unlike a "regular" brad-point drill, there are no spurs. Instead, the edge of the carbide is chamfered maybe 2 mm (5/64") and that seems to work quite well. The brad point is effective and the drill does not wander. I do need to peck more that I would have expected to clear the chips from the drill tip. Could be the helix angle is a little steeper than normal drills which would explain the low rake angle. Also it could be the OSB material I was using for initial testing. The carbide should hold up a long time, even in abrasive manufactured wood material. I'd say they are suitable for production use, certainly more production than they're going to see in my shop. They will definitely hold up a lot longer than regular HSS brad-point bits which is what I'm using them instead of. I would definitely do it again and recommend.

These arrived and though I haven’t used it yet, I have been observing how sturdy their construction seems. These are great for dowels in furniture. Highly recommend these.

I really wanted the Festool domino jointer, but I am not going to spend $1200 on a joinery tool, So I ordered the Igoo dowel jointer and It is awesome. It comes with 8mm bits, but sometime you need a heavier / strong dowel, so I found these bits. They are a perfect fit and work great. They cut super clean holes and don't leave any tear out. The Igoo is awesome and you will need an full set of different size bits to go with it.
