Buy Catholic Bible-OE: Douay-Rheims by Douay Rheims (ISBN: 9781935302025) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Love it - I wanted to buy the Baronius Press copy of the same Douay-Rheims but opted for this one as couldn't find a pocket copy of the Baronius Press for a reasonable price (the Baronius Press books seem to increase in value expediently when out of print and for good reason!). This one however, the TAN books copy, is a very good alternative in my opinion. Text is a good size, nice colour pictures at the back of events of our Lord's life, list of Popes (yes it's a Catholic Bible) up to Pope Benedict XVI, and has a basic history timeline of biblical events corresponding to the years and a couple of coloured maps. It has the bits when our Lord speaks in red which is a nice edition. The imitation leather is really nice and has a good feel to it, looks good when put up on the shelf (in a special spot mind you) with the St. Benedict medal design. I would indeed recommend this Bible. Review: Good book - I like reading this bible. It is easy to read. I like that it has a soft cover and is of good quality throughout.

A good Catholic Bible
This Bible is an excellent addition to any Catholic home. A nice leather flexi-cover, good size text (for me at least), some coloured, laminated images, a few prayers, and even a list of all the Popes up to Benedict XVI. The words of Christ are in red, which I find helpful as the Douay-Rheims doesn't use speech marks, so sometimes it can be hard to distinguish Christ's words from the rest of the text. I bought this as a fresh addition for spiritual reading. A very good purchase.

Excellent gift
Bought as a gift - really really nice quality, lovely cover, gold edged pages, presentation page, colour printing... Very nice. Thin paper pages but nothing unusual there. A little larger than I was expecting but still a manageable size. Bit pricey (twice as much as I was hoping to spend) but you do get what you pay for. This will last for generations in the right hands. I was going to give it four stars due to the price, but it really is worth the extra if you're looking for a good quality version for a gift.

Just what you need. Absolutely Wonderful
I'm really pleased with this Bible. Beautifully bound with lovely quality paper and the paper edge is a wonderful gold colour. In the front there's pages for presenting as a gift, writing Family registers(births, marriages, deaths). Great as a study Bible. It has elegant typesetting and the Words of Christ in red. It is annotated with references. At the back there's an Historical and Chronological Index to the Old & New Testament, the Beloved Prayers, Succession of Popes, a few beautiful colour paintings depicting the Life of Christ as well as the old maps of the Holy Land in full colour. The cover is a lovely warm brown and so soft.

Clear text
I need to use a magnifier, but that's because my eyes are weak. The print is good and the pages of decent quality. All things considered, a beautiful Bible.

If you are a language nerd like me, you will LOVE this text. It's simply sublime. Genesis 1:2 and 2:7 are worth the price of admission alone for the rational minded evolutionists ("rational minded" here is not said with snobbery or righteousness). The notations and linkings of verses is great. Again this goes back to the language point I made. As for the linking of verses, maybe it's been that long since I've looked at a bible, but I don't remember seeing that before.. The definitional index of sacraments and key teachings (ahh purgatory, the one major thing I remember going crazy about at bible study years ago...) and their validity in text is simply an indispensible tool. The photos are beautiful, though the "maps" are criminally undetailed. The timeline is interesting and quite useful as well. The list of popes, prayers, and text listings of feast days, and gospels for holy days makes this an absolutely perfect companion to have as you drag yourself back to mass for the first time in years, or sit in adoration for an hour. I'd suggest the 2 tone "stand firm in the lord" bible case for this. The burgundy, while not my preferred color (literally I ordered the first DR I found that also delivered next or same day), gives the text a proper dignified, and decidedly holy casing. The text size is just right. One minor gripe is there's only one ribbon (I remember catholic bibles as having approximately 35 ribbons all of various colors for all sorts of things), but it is a nice color. And of course, the translation. You simply cannot go wrong reading a Vulgate translation, as I've noted. If nothing else, as I said before, the translation itself is worth the purchase. The text reads so completely differently and is much richer. Also lends itself to some different spellings due to the fact that Latin lacks some written notation for certain sounds (so Noah is Noe and Sarah is Sara and Ham is Cham. My inner linguist drools.) Oh, and "Revelations"? Nope, it's listed here as "The Apocalypse"

As far as Catholic bibles go, this is some of the best value you can get. The typesetting and printing are very good and the imitation leather cover feels supple and pleasant. Please note that the binding seems to be glued, not sewn, but after having read through the entire Bible it's holding up just fine. The translation is scrupulously faithful to the Latin and feels duly solemn and reverential, and the words of Christ are in red letters. All in all, it is a thoroughly Catholic translation with the look and finish of a nice Protestant bible for a very reasonable price.

The Bible arrived on time and package was very good. This Bible is one of the best english translations, just as the kjv is for most protestants, this Bible is for catholics. The Fonts are readable and the Words of Christ are in Red colour fonts. If you want a solid translation of the Bible from a literal perspective vs equivalency perspective, this is THE Bible to have.
