Marco Polo: His Travels and Adventures (Classic Reprint) [George Makepeace Towle] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Marco Polo: His Travels and Adventures (Classic Reprint) Review: A must-read for any lover of world history - Marco Polo is still the best-known name among world travelers, this many centuries later. I thought this book was going to be strictly as dictated by Marco Polo to his cell mate, Rusticiano, while they were in prison together in Genoa. It is not. It is written by George Makepiece Towle, an American who lived in the 1800s, who translated the Italian original. Towle adds in comments that explain some of Polo's observations to people who live in much more recent times. Despite the lack of clarity between what came directly from Polo and what came from Towle, it is well written and exciting. Towle's explanations are useful. I enjoyed reading this book. Review: Fascinating - I enjoyed this book so much more than I expected. A charming and delightful book, lots of interesting descriptions of far away lands. Do recommend.

Most enjoyable
Fascinating biography of this amazing historical man whom we often unknowingly reference. Perfect in its content and brevity. Easy read.

Great history. Thirteenth century Italy, Middle East and China. I've got some left to read about prison

A very readable biography of Marco Polo
When I first downloaded the book, I wasn't sure what I was in for. I'd heard of Marco Polo all my life (I'm 71), but not much more. It turns out that the author (Towel) sat down in 1880 and, working from Polo's own book and then-current scholarship, created a very interesting and readable biography of the man and his travels. And how much MORE his tis travels covered besides the court of Genghis Khan - I had no idea.

Just a ho-hum kind of book.
Just a ho-hum kind of book.

A movie will never equal the book.
Just amazing almost not believable. Most likely there were other explorers similar to Polo, but they didn't survive long enough to write it down (history lost).

Marco Polo: His Travels and Adventure is Superb!
Reading “Marco Polo” was a refreshing journey into the life of one I had heard much about but read nothing about. Written in a fast-paced narrative, there was little chance for boredom. It should be read by anyone with a taste for enjoyable history.

A very entertaining book, written in a classic way by an admirer of Marco Polo. Despite a few typos, I strongly recommend it.

3.5 stars. Very good idea (presenting Marco Polo's travels through a roman-like story). But I found the realisation not so convincing.
