After learning about the web development I went to explore on the cloud offerings. This book being a 2nd edition interested me in terms of what AWS now is and what it has to offer. The book did not disappoint me - it offers a comprehensive introduction into the AWS Cloud offerings, yet it serves a beacon or guide in them. The cornerstone is AWS's vision into the proper cloud operations (the so called Well-architectured Framework), well covered and you are reminded to use it. I am left with an impression that the author covers just enough grounds, not more or less, to read quickly about an offering, and understand it while you prepare for a meting and firmly conclude whether one or another product should be used on your project. This is the core of the book in my opinion. But it does not end there, the book offers insights into tools or services internals, and how to configure or use the offering. So if say there was a mutual acceptance of the approach then you can find out on the next steps. I need to add that I cannot see this book as a user manual or something that will teach you a new skill or tool to use, you would need additional help to do the actual work. Another nice surprise is that the book does not stop at the common staples, but also ventures into the Containers, Kubernetes, Blockchain, ML/AI, IoT , Microservices and more. Toward the end of the book there is a chapter on a use case scenario that I found important to solidify one's skills and it serves as a refresher, yet, I think it made me look at problems from a different angle, the AWS angle. I really enjoyed this book and find it very helpful. In my role as an IT Architect, I've spent most of my career working with packaged software in on-prem environments. This book is a great primer on AWS, and explains also a lot of the application architecture methodology that underpins the services that AWS is offering now. It also has a good mix of screenshots and "showing you things" and technical theory and explanation. I also found the last chapter (hands on) very helpful, and a key part of the learning experience. That said, there are some errors in that chapter. Nothing I couldn't figure out and work through, but just be aware. Overall though, very happy with the purchase and definitely recommend it.
