I use this workbook for my 2nd grade small group instruction. Each passage has a specific skill it focuses on. The passage could be fiction or nonfiction. I can complete a passage and skill questions within my short amount of time. There are such a great mix of topics. One of my favorite parts is each skill has an ID that can be put into IXL.com. If a student continues to struggle after our time in up, they can use their Chromebook to head directly to the IXL skill that matches. This workbook is simple to use, kid-friendly, and fits right into my small-group routines. Great resource for 2nd grade teachers, parents/guardians, or homeschoolers looking for reading skills to practice.

The Spectrum Grade 2 Reading workbook from IXL has been a great addition to our small group learning. The stories are engaging without being overwhelming, which is perfect for second graders and struggling 3rd graders who are building confidence in reading. It includes a nice mix of fiction and nonfiction passages, and the questions really help kids practice finding the main idea and key details. What stands out most are the colorful graphics and clean layout it keeps my students interested and makes the pages feel inviting instead of like “extra work.” The activities are clear and age-appropriate, and the connection to IXL online practice is a nice bonus.
