It is not as easy as you think but it is very helpful to get started
The book is very clear and straightforward and easy to follow. You will not be playing properly if you are a complete beginner immediately but following the instructions and with a lot of effort it does get easier. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. I am surprised that at my age (80) and the fact I have not read music there are signs that I can manage simple tunes after 6 weeks. Enjoy . M Robertson

Very basic, but not quite basic enough for an absolute beginner
I 'm effectively a beginner on keyboard, but with reasonable musical knowledge from other instruments. The book introduces keyboard concepts well (e.g. keyboard functions)- but not piano, it doesn't get your left hand moving well enough. I raced through the first half of the book in my first session, but for an absolute beginner it doesn't give enough detail e.g. how to count half beats, or give any tips on how to make sure you've got the right rhythm. The exercises were all pretty basic and don't build to anything even approaching difficult so it's pretty easy to complete the book and not have a great understanding of how to actually play. I tried to teach myself to play about 20 years ago, and stopped after a year or so. At that point I was using a beginner piano book and if I still had that would find it much more useful. There were more tips on technique, more exercises and tunes to learn, and the tunes were more interesting. I wish I still had that book, or could find it to buy. I think this book would really suit someone with a little musical knowledge who wants to transfer it to keyboard. The book is really a taster to see if you want to learn properly.

Worth it
Simple enough for a complete beginner. As you practice more and make your way through the pages, it gets a little more challenging, but that’s good. It lets me practice over what I have done closer to the start, and as I make my way through I can get a good challenge without having to go buy another book. My sister also had a look though out of curiosity, and although being a child she didn’t take most of it seriously, she understood the concepts once she paid attention.

Very good instruction book.
I bought myself a keyboard, which then hung around for a couple of years, I thought I had better get my act into gear and play it! I learnt piano for about 3 years a long, long time ago, and with this easy book, it came back easily. It's just practice really. Next book will be an easy version of 80's songs and see how I get on with that!

This is a basic do it yourself, learn to understand and how to play piano basic key functions. Features very elmentary procedures. Amicably the equivalent of learning how to crawl before you stand up information. BUT, that is how you begin to assimilate understanding and then going to next learning step. Especially helpful if you prefer to or are more comfortable learning on your own. Lessons include information about individual music keys as one note and is then illustrated with other music notes and offers easy to play early childhood songs eg: Mary Had A Little Lamb. I would definitely recommend buying this basic guide before purchasing any other of the multitude of online courses, books etc. If contemporary piano instruction. For $20 you can determine in under 30 minutes if this is something you really want to pursue. Playing the piano well requires aptitude, discipline, patience , routine and commitment. If you have never sat down with a piano before this at least lets you know if it is your cup of tea!
