Yes extensions adjust about 2 inches each side, giving a total potential adjustment of approximately 4 inches

How can I return this I have had it for 2/3 months and my 1 year old can now open it just by pulling it!? not very safe at the top of the stairs.

It is very unusual that it can be opened by simply pulling it. Are you sure that the screws on either side of the gate are tight enough to the wall,as in,if they are not,this will not make it possible to close the gate properly with the latch at the top. Also,there is a locking latch at the bottom which can be moved downward to lock in addition to the lock at the top of the gate . If you are looking to return,you’ll need to contact the supplier directly through Amazon returns.
