I purchased this cylinder lock ready to move into a new home, and have been using it every day for about two months. There are plenty of good points about the lock. The polished chrome finish looks great, and matches the existing chrome house number and letterbox very well. It still looks good as new two months in, and is proving to be hard-wearing in everyday use. I will say my lock is inside with no exposure to the elements, so if you're using this on an outside door I wouldn't be surprised if it became tarnished a lot faster. It was also very straightforward to install, and having so many identical spare keys (six!) saved me getting lower-quality clones cut on the high street. The main downside of this lock is that, despite the reassurance of Yale's branding, the mechanism is not smooth in everyday use. It requires more force than feels right to lurch the mechanism from its locked to unlocked position, and vice-versa. It is by no means flimsy; if anything, it's just too stiff, with a lot of force transferred through the thin length of metal connecting the cylinder to the back box. This hasn't been a problem so far, but I do worry the key might eventually break in the lock, requiring a call to a locksmith and a three-figure invoice to get through my front door! All in all, it's a decent enough lock from a trusted brand, and my door feels perfectly secure with it locked in place. I'd expect a little more from a brand like Yale, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Replaced an existing chrome barrel where the key insertion had become tempermental, a perfect swap although the cast body seemed shorter the previous screws fitted perfectly. Although bought as a chrome barrel I'm pretty certain its actually polished stainless steel - looks that way, Completely satisfied.

Before I even saw this on Amazon.co.uk I went to my local key-cutter and he cut me a copy from my original Yale Key. Three attempts at cutting it and I had no joy, the keys that were cut from the original just did not work, so i got a refund, considering I spent £6.00 for a key. I obviously got a refund as the key was cut from the original yale key. I then thought I now need to replace the bolt, but thought I need at least 5 keys, did a few searches on Google and came to this web page with 6 keys pre-cut. I thought I'd give it a chance and low and behold got it the next day as i had Prime service and I seen the package and it was a genuine Yale lock and 6 keys in original packaging. I cut the shaft to size and put it altogether, took around 20-30min, not longer than that. I now have a new Yale lock and 6 original cut keys. What a bargain, you have to remember that these are guaranteed for 5 years, but will last 20 years with little problem. Maybe after 15-20 years you may need to change the lock, but after that amount of time who cares. Six keys are enough for me, but I believe you can also get a similar set with 8 keys. But, this is a bargain at this price, considering it is not cheap to cut keys nowadays. However, I went through the hassle of geting a key cut and none worked even though I had the same key cut on 3 attempts. Luckily, I don't live too far from the ironmongers, so I could stroll up and down to get another cut. But, that may not be convenient for everyone, so i would say, rather than waste time doing this, if it doesn't work on the first key cut, get a refund and by one of these or just buy this set and save time and money. I am a happy chappy and I believe this is a no brainer if you need a spare key or replacement. if your lock is 10years old, then just buy this!

Worked great to replace the lock cylinder from when i bought my house. I just used a hacksaw to cut it down to match the original. Very easy to replace.
