RØDE SC4 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Adaptor, Smartphone

I bought this to record better audio from my DJ Mixer than just placing the phone nearby and recording with the internal audio. This works with my Xone 23 mixer and SGS9 phone. For some reason, probably a setting on the phone, I can't use the record out output from my mixer, my phone pops up with an annoying message saying 'Complete action using' and gives me the choice of pressing 'Just once' or 'Always' with Chrome or Bixby Voice. I have to use the monitor out output on the back of the mixer connected to the SC4 and then into my phone and it works fine. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have the SC4 cable connected to my phone first or not. Audio is much better then what you could pick up from just the phone.

We all know that Rode is one of the best in the business and I’m here to confirm it yet again. I needed it to convert from TRS to TRRS and wouldn’t even think of anything else. Sound quality is great as well as the quality of the material. No delay in sound, excellent sheerness. Works with my iPhone XSMax

I have a Rode mic so didn't want to risk a loss of quality but it is quite a expensive... However, it is solidly made and works perfectly.

Great adapter necessary to get the standard TRS ,ic working with my iPhone. So far, so good, everything works just fine and the sound quality is not compromised. Rode do tend to be a little higher price than others but so far none of their kit has ever failed me.

There's not much to say about an adapter cable other than it works to allow you to use TRS plugs from microphones on an iPhone and iPad which uses TRRS. The cable is really thin and doesn't look like it will last too long but I'm hoped to be proved wrong. I can't imagine how thin the wires must be inside the sleeve so will this lead to loss of quality? I don't know and certainly hope not. Most Rode cables appear to be quite sturdy which gives you confidence in the product, this one just doesn't feel like it deserves the branding and the price tag but that said, looks can be deceiving and if this works well for as long as their other products, I will be happy.

Rode price their connecting cables high in comparison to other options out there. Unfortunately, that's the price you pay for going with a brand name. I had purchased another Rode cable recently, the Rode SC7, in order to connect the Rode VideoMicro microphone to my smartphone. Despite being more expensive that generic non-branded equivalents, I was pleased with the purchase because it is well made, features a good cable, and is colour coded black for TRS (for your microphone) and grey for TRRS (for your smartphone). Unfortunately, the Rode SC7 connection cable cannot be used with my Shure VP83 as the cable is built directly into the microphone. That is why I had to buy a TRS to TRRS connection cable that featured a female port for a TRS connection. Once again, I looked at cheaper non-branded alternatives, but I opted for the Rode SC4 as this is a cable I can use for years to come. Whilst I was really happy with the SC7, the SC4 is a mixed bag. From a sound quality point of view, the SC4 seems like a good cable. I have did a few test video recordings on my smartphone and everything seems good. From a build quality point of view, it's hard not to be disappointed with the SC4. The cable is thin; really thin. Due to this, the whole thing seems cheap. I am really surprised that they didn't use the same type of cable as the SC7. That one is coloured red, is branded with the Rode logo, and is thicker. The SC4 is black, super thin, and non branded. It wouldn't surprise me if they are just reselling generic TRS to TRRS cables under the Rode brand. I have a similar cable to this that has TRS at the male end instead of TRRS. That cable cost me £1.00 and the cable is much thicker than the one on the Rode SC4 that cost me £10.99. I am happy with the sound quality, but I am really not confident in this lasting any period of time. I am going to continue using this over the next few days to see how I get on, however I have ordered a cheap alternative as a backup as it seems inevitable that this will stop working at one point. I don't want to completely discourage others from buying this cable as audio quality does seem good and it is allowing me to use my Shure VP83 LensHopper microphone with my Google Nexus 6P. You should, however, be aware that the Rode SC4 cable is vastly overpriced for what you are getting.

I was gutted since this didn't work when I tried it earlier this afternoon. I gave it a fourth try tonight and realized I'd made a ridiculous error. When playing back, I'm sure that I forgot to remove the jack so the iphone was muted. Having conquered that, I thought it perhaps wasn't a good solution afterall, since the clipping was bad. I just turned down my mixer to find the sweet spot (at 9 o' clock) and it's crystal clear and reasonable loud on a iphone with volume halfway! Result! Using it to connect my Maker Hart mixer (through headphone out) with Korg Volcas connected to my iPhone 5c. This saves me from having to set up my camcorder and tripod and having to sync video with audio from my Tascam. More jams here I come!...

Works great with an Android phone, nearly any audio software and my lapel mic! Fantastic My advice to the seller - don't advertise it as an iPhone accessory! It's fantastic on Android!

Cette adaptateur TRS vers TRRS permet de brancher n'importe quel de votre microphone à votre smartphone ou ordinateur. Ses finitions plaquées or garantissent une bonne qualité d'enregistrement sans ajout de bruit supplémentaire à votre matériel initial. Lors de mes différentes utilisations, je constate une légère amélioration par rapport à un adaptateur classique en cuivre. Le bruit de fond est moins audible mais reste tout de même présent du fait de la qualité de mon micro. Petit point d'attention : lorsque vous utilisez un adaptateur de la sorte, il arrive très fréquement que la sortie son soit coupée. Pour certains besoins vidéos, il peut être nécessaire d'avoir le retour sonore en direct. Pour répondre à ce besoin, il vous faudra installer en plus une application sur votre smartphone afin de séparer la piste sonore et la voix. Finalement, je recommande ce produit pour ses matériaux et sa conception en forme de coude qui permet de bien tenir son smartphone en main lorsqu'on enregistre une vidéo sans être gêné par celui-ci.
