Is the passive speaker connected to the powered speaker by a proprietary cable or an ordinary commodity cable?

Hello, the included cable connecting the powered and passive speakers together is by no means proprietary in nature. It's got 2 ordinary speaker connectors on each end, and is definitely something you could make yourself from speaker cable and 4 connectors. But for the record, the connecting cable is included with the speakers.

If not using bluetooth, is it possible to stop the bluetooth button LED from blinking constantly?

When the HD3 is first powered on, the Bluetooth pairing button will flash for 5 minutes while in discovery mode. If during that time a Bluetooth connection is made, the light will go solid. If no connection is made within 5 minutes, the light will go dark. At that point, it should not start flashing again until the pairing button is pressed to trigger another 5 minute discovery mode or the speakers are powered off and back on, which will restart the process described above.

Do these need to be listened to close by for optimal sound quality or do they sound good from about 5 feet away?

Thee of course sound amazing up close but I can listen to them up to about 8-9 feet away. Now they can’t get a bit strained up in the highest regions while watching movies. That might bother some people. It really doesn’t effect my usage. Just turn it down ever so slightly and it’s perfect. It fills up a my living room with sound. Can I use microphone with this product?

The headphone jack on the HD3's can only be used as an output. If you want to incorporate a mic, you would need to send the mic signal separately, directly to your PCs mic input.
