amazing for dualsense controllers.
i use PS5 dualsense controllers on switch and PC. here’s what i like about this adapter: -controller pairing is saved on the adapter’s local memory, not the host device. you can swap one controller between PCs/switch/etc by simply moving the adapter between their ports. -controller mapping and emulation is done onboard. on windows, it automatically converts my DS5 inputs to xbox inputs, which provides maximum compatibility. on switch, it converts them to a switch pro controller. -pairing is fast. really fast. the DS5 is my favorite controller ever, but the pairing (and re-pairing) process with it for windows bluetooth can be…frustrating. incredibly so. this removes that issue entirely. it automatically finds the closest controller in bluetooth pairing mode and snatches it up, no weird extra drivers (or sudden and mysterious lack thereof) to worry about. -plug and play. literally no setup required other than the pairing process. at least on switch and PC. -mapping software. i have yet to use this, but will very soon and will update this review asap. i’m hoping it saves the settings to the adapter itself, not the PC. i imagine it does. -no noticeable difference in latency between the 8bitdo’s bluetooth connection (and subsequent input processing) and a direct bluetooth connection via windows settings. this thing is awesome and it’s a ton of functionality, quality of life, and compatibility packed into a small red or brown plastic brick. it’s more than fairly priced considering the ease of use, reliability, and performance. if you have any issues with your PC’s onboard bluetooth and your controller, or want to use an unsupported controller for the switch, this is all you need. the design is also unique, and it stands apart from similar adapters.

Works great and made using my PS4 controller on Switch easy
I really liked this adapter and it worked exactly as I hoped. I used it to connect my PS4 controller to my Nintendo Switch, and the setup was quick and straightforward. Pairing was simple and took only a minute. Once connected, the controller worked smoothly with no noticeable input lag or connection drops. Button mapping felt natural, and gameplay was consistent across different games. The adapter itself is small and unobtrusive, so it does not get in the way while playing. It feels well made and stayed securely plugged in during use. I also appreciate how versatile it is, since it can be used across multiple platforms instead of being locked to one system. Overall, this adapter did exactly what it promised and made gaming more comfortable by letting me use a controller I already like. It has been reliable, easy to use, and well worth it for anyone who wants controller flexibility on the Switch.

It works great! PS3 controller takes extra work but will work--read for info
My son really got used to using Wii U Pro controllers with the Wii U. He likes the Wii U Pro controller a lot and I found a controller on clearance so I didn't care much that he got his grimy. Grimy controllers are one of my pet peeves. But now that we have the switch, my son always want to use my Switch Pro controller. I don't want to pay for another Switch Pro controller, but he's already gotten my Switch Pro controller gross once! This solved all my problems. He now can use the Wii U Pro controller and I can have the Switch Pro controller all to myself! It's not perfect. It does have some pros and cons. Here they are: Pros: -lets me use a Wii U Pro controller or a Wiimote, or a PS3 controller, or a PS4 controller with my Switch. (one controller at a time per 8Bitdo adapter) -sync was easy--press the button on the 8bitdo adapter and then press the sync button on the Wii U Pro controller. It's slightly different for other controllers except for PS3 (see cons). -Just works. I've had zero issues playing games this way. It does not seem to add lag or any other issues. Cons: -pairing a PS3 controller requires a windows or mac computer and a program from the 8Bitdo website (included in the firmware download). It works, but it takes work. -can't turn the Switch on when the Switch is asleep in the dock. The home button on a real Switch controller will turn on the docked Switch but no buttons on a controller connected to the 8Bitdo receiver wake the Switch up. -no rumble except for PS4 controllers for some reason -no motion controls except with a PS4 controller. (This is sometimes expected since the Wii U controller doesn't have motion controls built in). -can only use in dock mode. Well, actually I tried with a USB-C to USB adapter in portable mode and it works, but you'll need a stand or something and you can't plug in your battery charger. I also assume it will affect battery life, but I assume not too much. (I won't be testing because I won't be using it in docked mode) -no manual except the barest instructions on the back of the box. It at least should tell you to go to their website for the full manual! Concerns: -I've had no problems with the adapter interfering with Switch controllers, but it is a a bluetooth adapter when the Switch connects to the official controllers with bluetooth too. I'm thinking about getting a second 8Bitdo adapter, but I wonder when too much bluetooth interference might cause problems. I know I'm not saying it's the most amazing thing ever, but it really does solve a problem and make controllers I already have useful with the Switch. So I'm really happy with it. I don't care about motion controls and I can live without rumble. As far as actually working with the controllers, it's perfect. I really do suggest this as a way to get controllers working with your switch.

Excellent stuff.
Okay so I have a lot of controllers. Perhaps too many, I mean dating back to the Genesis & SNES, and a few adapters to get them working on other such things. So, I've been buying controllers for a while and when I saw that the Switch's pro controller had that hefty of a price tag and the dpad is apparently not great- I wasn't about to buy that. So, hesitantly I grabbed this and decided to give it a go given it's price...and it works great! I want to try it with my RetroPi soon but with the Switch and Smash Brothers? It's been great. Tried my WiiU Pro Controller which didn't have any noticeable lag. Tried it with Sonic Mania, Freedom Planet, DOOM and the new Monster Boy game. Everything works as it should and I'm not sure what I can say. Your controller that worked well on one system, now works on this one! The only complaints I can give are not really a fault of the device itself it's that the controllers you'll want to use will not likely have all the functions: You're not going to get the full functionality with other controllers. Your XB1 controller isn't going to magically get motion controls and the triggers aren't going to give different pressure ranges to the switch. Motion apparently will work with the PS4 controller? But I haven't tested that. You also don't have a screenshot button with something like the WiiU Pro controller, so you'll have to keep a joycon near you to do that. Which does work! The controller will also not power on the system, so if you're a lazy bum and can't press the button on your switch before sitting down, then that'll probably annoy you. What I do like is that there's no need to pair after you've done it the first time (unless you pair the controller with another device after). It's quick to get the controller on and working with the system and nice. Tips: Update the device's firmware. Go to 8bitdo's website, find the firmware installer. Unzip ALL the contents to a folder, open the exe, plug in the device to a USB port, hit patch, wait a few seconds. You're all done. After that, plug it to your switch/retropi/pc/etc. Hold the pair button on the stick, then the controller should sync fast. For the Switch you NEED to go to your options menu and enable "Pro Controller Wired Communication". Smooth sailing after this. The set up seems a bit crazy but it's simple, and once you're done? You're done. Conclusion: I highly recommend this if you're not interested in spending a ton of cash on the pro controller and you hate the joycon's 'dpad'. You probably have one controller that'll work with this (PS3,PS4, XB1-S, WiiU Pro Controller) so it'll give an old controller extra use and save your wallet some pain.

Awful on a PC
I bought this so that I could use my PS4 controller on my Windows 10 PC. I read many reviews that recommended a firmware upgrade before pairing controllers, so I did that before pairing. I also figured that I should make the PS4 forget this controller so that I wouldn't be activating my PS4 by mistake, so I did that as well. I managed to pair the controller easily to the adapter. I don't think it was mentioned anywhere that in order for it to be detected as an X-Input device you also have to run another software from their website. That also was easy enough to set up. Then the problems happened. The input sent to the computer can be erratic. For example, say you are playing a platformer. If after you jump you press any of the directional or analogs, then the adapter will stop sending the jump signal and send the directional/analog signal followed by jump again. In plain English, it will cancel your jump and then make you move in the direction, then send the jump command again (making you in some ocassions jump just as you land). This wasn't even the most frustrating part. I had to re-pair the PS4 controller every time I started windows, otherwise the adapter wouldn't see it. And then something even worse happened, the PS4 controller seems to be connected to the adapter, however Windows doesn't detect any input coming from the controller. I then tried to connect a Switch Pro Controller to the adapter to see if that would work under Windows, but I guess it's still looking for the PS4 controller and I can't figure out a way to make the adapter "forget" my PS4 controller. I couldn't find any information about this in the manual, so I assumed it wouldn't be an issue. Now I don't know if I got a defective adapter, but as far as I can tell it's just junk. I guess I could try to salvage this buy by trying to see if it works for connecting the PS4 controller with my Switch. But for PC I would highly advice against going this route. You're better off connecting the PS4 controller to the computer with a USB cable and using something like DS4Windows (which is what I was doing but wanted to go wireless).

Works great for what it supports. Lacks features compared to its competitors
Update May 2018 As of firmware 1.15, some issues I had with the device have been fixed. The review has been updated to coincide with the changes. I have a similar product to this from Mayflash, (

My perfect solution for using a Sony Dual Shock 4 with my PC as a Xinput controller.
I looked around for the best solutions for using a Sony Dual Shock 4 with my PC as a Xinput Controller. I tried the program DS4Windows with a cheap bluetooth dongle, it works most of the time. You got to remember to have the program open ether on the desktop or the background, it's acts kinda picky and its hard to sync. (Note: I am using the older style non-Pro Sony Dual Shock 4). Thats why I love the 8Bitdo Wireless Bluetooth adapter, there no programs or apps I have to install into Windows. It has full Xinput support. Most of the PC Games that require Xinput works great, some games will still have issues but that is with the game not this adapter. (FF7 on Steam is stupidly picky for no reason). Once set, you can leave the USB dongle plugged in in the back where it not get in the way, and you can have your Dual Shock 4 (or any other Bluetooth gamepad of choice). Windows will treat the Adapter as a WIRED Xbox 360 pad, and the pad's own internal firmware interface with your controller. The downside is you not get to use the Guide Button or Touch pad, and the triggers will act like Xbox 360 triggers. You use the Guide button to wake up or put the pad to sleep, the DS4 pad will lose it's autosleep for some reason but this isn't a issue for me. I cannot rate the battery life, as this product do not use a battery, I would be reviewing the DS4's battery. Comfort is subjective to what your game pad of choice is, but this allows me to use the game pad of my choice with modern windows. And Honestly this thing is cheaper and more reliable that the official Sony made Dual Shock 4 receiver for PC.

Dont Buy a Generic USB Dongle
TLDR: It works, though it might require some configuration. I did not use this with anything other than a 8bitdo controller. If you're using an 8bitdo controller make sure to run the firmware updater, this dongle works fine under windows 10 and X-Input. No latency issues, no controller issues, nothing. It works as expected, and it works and feels just as it does when it is wired. Barring extreme latencyphobes I saw no noticeable lag, it felt no different to my DS4 in these regards. I am generally sensitive to latency, but in the world of wireless controllers you adapt quick since its not 'heavy' or sluggish anymore. The advancements of modern technology, yada yada. That said you need to run steams identify config to make it work properly with no latency and no button issues. For some reason prior to doing this I could only use the left analog stick and like 1 button. The analog stick would jump 2-3 options, and the button had dire input lag. When running identify it lets you map all of the buttons on the controller, and then you can label it as whatever you please (I just left it default to Xbox One Controller, its fine). Funny thing is, all you're doing is mapping the buttons and viola no pain or suffering. Reason for not using generic usb bt dongle? For one I dont know if it even works with the 8bitdo controller. Secondly you need very good line of sight, a leg, an arm, or even a wire can hamper your connection. Thirdly latency when using them, since they need perfect line of sight can go from 5ms to 50ms(DS4Windows Latency Meter) in a heart beat resulting in noticeable input lag. I got a generic dongle for my DS4 controller since the official dongle broke, and hooo boy was I a sad sad panda. (PC's and BT, something that never developed properly. Maybe some laptops have good BT receivers). This 8bitdo dongle should work with a DS4, but I couldn't be arsed to test that, simply because I find the SN30 Pro+ to be quite a bit superior in many ways other than rumble. Also this dongle doesn't let you use motion controls wirelessly, the official Sony BT Dongle does. Motion control might not seem important, but when you find a game that you can map it to, you'll miss it(like ED). If I do connect my DS4, because curiosity always bites, i'll update if there are any problems.
