SmallRig FX3 / FX30 XLR Handle Top Plate for Sony FX3 / FX30 XLR Unit

This was such a nice little Upgrade for my fx3 audio handle. Reinforced it a little bit and added just the extra room I needed!

If you're using your Sony top-handle without this, you're missing out on what should have been included by Sony. The additional cold shoe mount and 1/4-20 threads are very handy if you're mounting a light, microphone, or other camera accessories (don't go too heavy though, as the handle is still made of plastic. The additional rigidity and protection it offers to the top handle should provide some peace of mind. This is best used with the handle extension, which offers even more mounting points.

When I originally installed the Sony XLR-H1 to my Sony A7SIII using the SmallRig conversion piece onto my cage, I was incredibly disappointed with how lightweight AND short the stock audio handle was. That's when I did some digging and found this nifty little device from SmallRig. Not only does it add a ton of extra mounting points and NATO rail to the handle, but more importantly it adds about an inch of extra length, plus a handgrip to improve ergonomics. Given it's all metal, it also makes me feel a lot more confident in protecting the plastic Sony handle, and paired up with the other SmallRig part to connect this piece to the top of the XLR jack, and the handle feels absolutely bulletproof now. Honestly a MUST HAVE if you own this audio handle!

Seems pretty sturdy. If you have the XLR handle, you know that it’s made of cheap plastic, so this top plate is necessary to protect it when shooting handheld in the field.

This handle extension definitely adds some needed length and makes the FX30 top handle feel a bit more solid. It’s helpful for low angle shots and just gives you more to work with when the rig starts getting built out. The only real issue is it loosens up pretty fast. I’ve had to stop a few times mid-shoot just to tighten it back down. It’s not falling off or anything, but it’s one of those things you have to keep checking, which gets a little old. Overall, it works and does what it’s supposed to, but I just wish it stayed locked in a bit better.

When I got this camera with this handle I was immediately disappointed with the grip and the plasticky feel. I knew I wanted the audio but was not impressed with this. I understand that they would not put this out in plastic if it wasn't able to hold the weight and be durable but it just adds to the cheapness. And the grip was just horrible. I don't have much I want to put on this but just wanted to see if this item could alleviate these gripes. As soon as I put this SmallRig handle on my FX30 it's like the camera became new. The handling was perfect and the metal felt great. It feels much heftier (not heavier). The grip is amazing and I just can't believe that Sony did not make the product like this to begin with. Great Job SmallRig! I've had many of your products but this is by far my favorite!

Cada vez que esta marca saca un producto nuevo, mejora lo anterior, y con este no ha sido diferente. Se adapta a la FX3 como un guante y el nuevo agarre es simplemente cómodo y firme. Cuando una marca cuida así los detalles, repetir se hace fácil. Muy satisfecho con la compra.

If you have the appropriate small rig bracket that allows you to mount the audio top handle from an FX 3 to an A7 body, this particular small rig extension handle kit will fit onto the A7 cameras. You’ll need to remove the handle from the bracket first as the extension kit bracket doesn’t just slide over and into place if the handle is already mounted to the bracket. But once that’s done, the fit is snug and secure .
