Perfect for optimizing the speed of your fan. I almost didn’t get this due to many reviews saying “it does nothing at all”. This inexpensive control merely throttles the current to your fan, enabling you to reduce the speed by up to 50%. It works exactly as described and is an excellent control for reducing the speed and/or noise level of your fan. UPDATE: The controller failed after a couple weeks. iPower sent a brand new replacement, and I received it within a couple days. This is the third product I’ve tried from this company, and I have been very happy with performance and support. They definitely stand behind their products.

Used this to dampen/lower CFM of 375cfm Radon mitigation system duct fan mounted outside home. 375cfm was too high and causing air to be pulled from within the home cavity(interior, windows, attic) into the crawlspace. This wasted far more energy than would’ve been needed(electric for A/C in Summer, propane for Furnaces in Winter). While some duct fans have a potentiometer within, to do the same job as this device, my unit did not. Reportedly it is vital that the fan motor not be lowered below 50% energy supply. 2 Year Update: survived many weather events throughout four seasons per year and running 24x7x365.

Before installing, I discovered that the fan leaked air around center seam and around the wiring block. Had to tape seal those areas The fan also has more vibration than expected. Likely cavitation or balance issue. Installed in a ventilation capacity for a small project space. Works well enough for my application and was economical. Wouldn’t recommend for use in a concealed space or when quiet, vibration free ventilation is desired.

So, I originally ordered two of these fans. One to use as an exhaust fan for my welding area and another for a project to be named later. As often happens, my original project waits to be completed but did I ever find an incredible use for the spare blower. A friend reached out and asked me if I could weld a new fire grill for her barrel stove. I said sure and also asked if she’d be interested in a blower motor to increase the burn rate of her wood. Aka: make the fire hotter. She was excited by that possibility so I took the motor and controller along with me. A little cutting and welding later and she has a turbo injected barrel stove. 190 cfm through 3” metal ducting seems perfect. 24” off the back of the stove and the fan doesn’t heat up at all. Great product!!! Metal squirrel cage not plastic! Super quiet! Can’t say enough good things.

Used this on an in line duct fan also purchased on Amazon. Very well made. Has screw tab to attach to the screw on the receptacle cover plate for secure mounting. I also used this product as a lamp dinner. Works very well. 300 watts maximum but that's no problem. Inside the control is a trim pot (you disassemble the box to get to it) allowing you the change the minimum speed/illumination point. Works fine as shipped but I did have to check the whole circuit out just for kicks. This is a very easy triac/diac circuit to duplicate if you are so inclined. Not much noise from the fan motor as long as you observe at least 40 percent or so of the full speed. Quieted down the air rushing noise just enough that my customer could not detect it. Great product.

I bought this for probably not the intended purpose but it works great. I was looking for a way to push air from the first floor of the house to second story when we used our pellet stove. I cut a heat register vent in the largest room and piped in the vent to help move heat. Definitely works great and runs 24/7 for over a month now

I chose this unit over the smaller diameter after reading reviews. The 6" unit moves a huge amount of air and is extremely quiet. Specifacations say it is measured at 35 decibles but it may be quieter. This was purchased to make a fume extractor for welding with the doors down in the garage during cold weather. Previously, I would have a headache and a metallic taste in my mouth even when wearing an N95 mask under the helmet after welding with the doors down in the winter. This unit more than handles the extraction of hamful fumes preventing headache and allowing me to complete welding task on my car and shop builds in one step as opposed to multiple steps. I would totally recommend this fan.

This item works perfectly to give me better control over a 20 inch orbital drum fan that already had 3 speeds but there was very little difference between high and low speeds. From what I read online I didn't think this would even work. But eventually I decided to take a chance and try it out. I am so happy that I did. It could not work better. The item has a very good quality feel. The dial to adjust speed it smooth and feels like it will last a very long time. Highly recommend. Even if what you want to control already has speed control this still gives you more control. Excellent product.
