there are many types of push pins. there are ones with small recess on either side so you can get a small screwdriver in to lift the center, thats what these are best for. the very ends could have been a bit thinner. actually they are pretty heavy duty and sturdy, but for small push pins that are all flat, not great.

Amazon has two different style pin pullers. This is one of them and they are excellent. This is my 2nd. In one car, to replace a tail light which is on the trunk lid, a textured beauty cover is installed to hide the wires and latching mechanism. It is held in place by push pins and this easily removes them without damaging them. I got this one to leave in the trunk.
