Building Valve Amplifiers Review: Great Reference for Those Building or Working on Tube Amplifiers - Morgan Jones is now on the 4th Edition of his book "Valve Amplifiers" and has now written a new book "Building Valve Amplifiers" that goes into more detail on the design and construction of them. As an electronics hobbyist and not a trained engineer, I've found his books to be just right in their balance of theory, math and practical knowledge. I think that a lot of people have been waiting for this book and I will say that it has been worth the wait. It has become an essential reference on my work bench. Review: Fantastic book - for the intended purpose - This book gives great coverage to a much lacking topic - the physical construction and testing of tube amplifiers (or, for that matter, any tube gear). It is the best work I have seen in this area, and is invaluable if you need it or are just interested in tube gear wiring and construction. Tube circuitry is tangential to the information in the book, but it is not the main course here. There are many other books available that discuss tube amplifier circuits. There are few if any others that provide proper coverage of mechanical construction.

Great book on using tubes.
Great book on how to make a valve amplifier with vacuum tubes. Design and assembly tips to make it easier to work.

Fun!!
This is a fun book to read, I mean its less academic or design centered an more hobbyist/maker oriented. You can learn about the entire process on how to build your own valve amplifiers, from wiring to metalworking, which tools to use, which valves, stages, etc..Im giving it 4 stars because the book features many pictures however they are all in black and white, which makes it difficult to fully appreciate all the details, the kindle version apparently has color pictures. In my opinion you will not learn how to design an amplifier but you will learn how to build them, which is the purpose of the book, however if you want to learn all the ins and outs of valve design, there are other books more suitable for the purpose like the other book by Mr. Jones Valve Amplifiers, Fourth Edition will seem more apropriate, or my personal favorite Radio Designer's Handbook, Fourth Edition .

Lots of good ideas
I've built several tube amplifiers since I was a kid (long time). This book has given me several new ideas for my next one.

the book is filled with great information.
this was a gift. the recipient really enjoys it. he knows how to build and repair amps; I don't. according to him, the book is filled with great information.

How to properly arrange the elements in the housing.
I building my new 300B tube amp 👍

Spends way to much time on non amp material
No significant discussion of tube amplifier types. Shows some very outdated Mullard designs. Very British oriented. Spends like 100 pages on analog multimeter use. The chassis building part is worthwhile. Good coverage of grounding (earthing per author) I was looking for something more advanced, I guess. Definitely not cutting-edge stuff.

Very informative

Morgan Jones is very literate, and conveys the process of building tube amplifiers with a clarity that cannot be defined as dry. This book is meant to be the second half of "Valve Amplifiers" by the same author. Tube selection and theory are covered in the other book, this one covers only the physical build process which is just as important, if not more so.

Altamente recomendable.

Very good book. Has a lot of details on the mechanical aspects of valve amp chassis along with the electronic issues. Lots of good suggestions on how to get things done easily. Great for those who want to build valve amps and build their own chassis.

All you need to know about physically building a valve amp is covered in great detail in Morgan Jones' book. However you also need Morgan Jones' sister book Valve Amplifiers in order to design the circuitry,
