Great entry point for new players/DM
Bought this starter set to run a new players through. the kid doesn't come with much no screen, no minis, you get the info books and the map which I don't feel is great to show players as it has all the hidden things on the map. Great story good premade characters, for new players and DM great value and should be an easy and fun run

Beginer perfect!
This set has been so fun! It comes with how to video links and plenty of starter materials! I have enjoyed this set so much, and I can't wait to keep the adventure going with additional sets! It is a very good deal when you buy the set. It helps keep the adventure going, and having both gives a better idea on the overall gameplay. The packs are sturdy and quality. The character sheets are light but sturdy and the dice are a fun color!

It's everything you need to start
I play the game with my two sons they love it and this was the perfect kit to start us out on it we ended up getting quite a few more different ones after they've done this and they've spread to other types of table top role-play games as well

Gets you the Basics but get the Essentials Kit Instead
I used this adventure kit to learn the rules of 5e D&D and teach my kids how to play D&D (somewhat successfully on both accounts). The starter set comes with a set of dice, the short stormwreck isle adventure, a basic rules book, and some premade character sheets. The dice are nothing out of the ordinary but you'll get one of each of the 7 standard side types. The adventure, Stormwreck Isle, is a short and basic Forgotten Realms campaign. It's got a limited scope to a tiny little island but it has a handful of interesting random encounters along with some preset encounter location/dungeon(s). It's supposed to be tied fairly closely to the premade characters so the story arcs in some part follow along. It makes sense but makes the campaign a bit more rigid. I will say that the starter set does help explain DM (the person who manages the adventure) responsibilities but I imagine if someone were a brand new DM, the game would be very hard to follow. So for a starter set in general where everyone is learning at the same time this short adventure might actually swell up a fair amount of time especially on the DM part. The basic rule book is actually pretty good. Because the character sheets have all the stats and level increases baked in, the rule book trims that out. It leaves only the essentials of play in it which actually makes it an easier to navigate rule guide than even the Player's Handbook (the most basic core book you'd need to play D&D). It gets the job done and it's where I learned all the rules prior to fleshing out a 5e collection of books. Premade character sheets are included to ease entry to the game. They've already got everything related to the class and character aside from name, sex, and backstory. So you can end up owning the character if you like it but you aren't really afforded subclass options. But the adventure is only intended to take you through level 3 so no huge loss if You're just using it to learn. That said, each character sheet basically has instructions on using the character baked in including the level up process and abilities accessed at those levels. One gripe I had with the manufacturing on this though was that the ink on the character sheets themselves were so incredibly pungent/foul that when I would open the box it would make the room smell rancid. So I let the open box get aired out in front of a fan to mitigate the stink. Overall, this is a good product but you get more bang for your buck from the "Essentials Kit" which is largely the same thing but enables players to make their own characters, take on a larger adventure, and has access to more content in Forgotten Realms.

Fun adventure set, nice story and would recommend.
Nice kid friendly set for your D&D group. Easy to read, clever little story and likable characters. It could use a little more customization toward new (and I mean NEW) players, but overall it was still fun and we had several hours of enjoyment out of it.

A great beginner set!
There is so much to like about this DnD set. It is a great value, you get some premade worksheets, dice, a scaled down version of the Player's Handbook, and a great self-contained story. This story is one of the better ones that Wizards of the Coast offers and is a wonderful on ramp for new players, but also provides an engaging hook for those who may be experienced with the game. The premade characters and generic and their builds and backgrounds, but for starting players they provide enough to work with. Experienced players may enjoy building their own characters or tweaking what is in the game.

Great set for D&D beginner
I bought this set for my son, to start his journey into gaming. The box includes everything you need to start playing a D&D game, with pre-made character sheets that you can use to start playing immediately without having to bother with confusing character creation. As a long time D&D player, I understand character creation is a lot of fun, but for a group/person who might want to try the game mechanics without feeling overwhelmed, this set is designed for people to sit down and start playing within minutes using the included character sheets. The adventure has enough content for multiple gaming sessions and is more of a mini-campaign. It includes much more content than I had anticipated. I think the set is worth buying for a beginning group, even if you decide not to use the pre-made character sheets.
