Crochet for Beginners: A Stitch Dictionary with Step-by-Step Illustrations and 10 Easy Projects

Love this book! I started crocheting a few months ago and picked this book up and it really has helped me with learning different stitches! I'm frequently referring back to the book for different stitches depending on which project I'm working on. Very well written and easy to understand even as a complete beginner. Plus it comes with 10 free patters as well!

This is a great book for beginners. It gives step by step instructions on a great deal of stitches and crochet products.

There are so many great beginner ideas and examples in this book. I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos and still couldn’t figure out some stitches and steps, this book has helped me through step by step. So glad I read previous reviews before buying because it was very helpful! Arrived very quickly!

This is a good book. The book is basic don't get me wrong, that is the purpose of it, but there are three issues that I have when I reading this book. The first issue that I have is when the author explained to tools and other essentials tools. Some of the tools are self explanatory, but I wish that she would give a example when she explain the use of the tools. For example, the stitch markers. The explanation of the stitch markers is basic and simple, but I wish she would give a examples of using the stitch marks while crocheting. The second issue that I have when the author explain crochet terms and stitch basics. For example, the slip knot. I had a hard time understanding what is it that I was trying to do base on what the author explained in the first step. It says, STEP 1 TAKE A FEW INCHES OF THE WORKING YARN AND FORM A LOOP WITH YOUR FINGERS. LAY THE LOOP OVER THE WORKING YARN. I wish the author would have said that YOUR LOOP SHOULD LOOK LIKE A PRETZEL or your loop should like this or that, or your chain stitch should look like a braid etc. I can understand that the author can't make a reference on every loop, stitch, or chain, but It would be a good ideal if the author would make some type of reference on the loop, stitch, or chain if the author can. And the last issue that I have with this book is the the yarn selection for the project. Example, the Dish cloth set. In the author book the author says to use PREMIER YARNS HOME COTTON BIG, I don't know if its true or not, but I found out that this particular yarn is discontinued. I wish the author would gave a alternate choice when choosing a yarn, for example IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE YARN THAT IS USED FOR THIS PROJECT, YOU CAN USE YARN A,B, OR C, OR THIS BRAND OF YARN, OR IF YOU CAN'T FIND THAT PARTICULAR COLOR FOR THE PROJECT, YOU CAN USE ANY COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE etc. Overall all this a good book for crocheting for beginners.

As a newbie to crocheting, this book is a great resource in helping to grasp the art of crocheting. The book uses illustrations and actual pictures to help teach the art. The illustrations are very clear and detailed. With each new stitch, the book provides an enlarged picture of what the stitch should look like. The book also provides pictures and instructions on some gift-worthy items!

have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, the stitch patterns are absolutely amazing and look beautiful once they are finished. However, the title "For Beginners" is a bit misleading. Knowledge Required: You definitely need to already know your crochet vocabulary and basic abbreviations to understand the instructions. If you’ve never picked up a hook before, the way the patterns are written will likely be confusing. Easy Fix: Even though the written instructions were a bit advanced for me, I found that I could look the stitches up online or on YouTube to see the movement. Once I saw the visual, I could follow along with the book much better. Great Dictionary: As a "Stitch Dictionary," it is a wonderful resource to have on your shelf for inspiration and variety once you get the hang of the basics.

purchased as gifts for a couple of budding crocheters. I thought the instructions were really clear and helpful. One of them at least has been working on learning the stitches and how to read patterns and finds the book's instructions clear and easy to follow.
