Good first impression
My application is a bit unusual in that I'm installing the unit in a custom made gas tank, and had to cut the access hole and pre-drill the holes for the self-tapping mounting screws. Before committing to using the unit I did a test to see if it would work with the Stewart Warner fuel gauge in the 1967 Jeep I'm restoring. I connected the positive lead from the gauge to the center contact of the sending unit, and clamped the negative (ground) lead to the steel disc. After turning on the ignition to power up all gauges I watched the needle of the SW fuel gauge while I manually moved the float arm through its full range of motion from lowest to highest - the needle tracked the arm position exactly. When the arm was right at horizontal, for instance, the gauge needle was right at the vertical mid-point. I made a doubled mounting backer plate with two squares of 20 gauge sheet steel, and drilled the screw holes. Be aware that most of these sending unit mounting screw holes are NOT evenly spaced; this is done deliberately so that there is only one correct mounting position if you are simply replacing a defective unit in an existing tank. This prevents the float arm from being out of position and hitting against the inside of the tank partway through its swing. The rubber gasket that is included is thick and flexible, so should provide a good seal without needing any sealing compound. The screws are of good quality and have a hex head, which is better if you need to use some force to get them to cut fresh threads, as I did. The instructions were fairly thorough, and included a chart showing how to adjust the length of the float arm and the main vertical mounting shaft for tanks ranging in depth from 5" to 22.5". There is also a description of how to adjust for a situation in which the mounting screw hole alignment of the fuel tank doesn't correspond to the sending unit. I haven't put the tank into service yet, so can't vouch for performance immersed in fuel, and over the long term.

Perfect
It worked perfect for my transfer tank. 2 conductor connection, a few screws on the sender lid and I think 2 bolts to adjust the depth.

Universal??
I purchased the Universal Sending Unit to fit in my 9" deep gas tank. According to the installation instructions, this unit can be adjusted to fit in a 9" depth gas tank. In order for it to fit inside my 9" deep tank, the length of the unit needed to be adjusted to 4 5/8" from the centerline of the sending unit to the bottom of the mounting flange. However, it would not adjust to the length specified in the installation chart for a 9" deep tank. After spending a lot of time trying to achieve the correct length, it became apparent that I would have to modify it. I had to modify it by cutting approximately 1 1/2" off the top adjusting bar and tap a new screw hole to achieve the correct length. The sending unit works like it should. Just know that if you purchase the Universal Sending Unit to fit in a tank that is less than 10" deep you will have to make some modification to it.

Perfect for for Bobcat 743
I had to make one modification which was very simple, I loosened the two nuts on top so that I could spin the mounting disk 180 degrees so the hole pattern lined up with my tank. The float arm had to face the other direction. I suppose you could do this another way by flipping the float mechanism but my solution seemed the easiest. Aside from that I measured the tank and followed the directions to extend the body and clip the float arm and now I have a working fuel gauge. BTW, before installing it, you should probably connect it to your gauge and check to see that A) your gauge actually functions and B) the ohm range matches what your gauge is looking for. Otherwise you will waste your time installing it because it is a bit of a fiddly spot to get into depending on how your tank and wiring harness are arranged.
