Amazon Basics External Hard Drive Portable Carrying Case, Black

I have multiple external hard-drives, some of them are bulky and are meant to keep a backup at home. Some of them are smaller ones which I use to carry my photos and other files around with me while I am traveling or transporting data between home and office. Two of them are small 1TB and 2TB USB3.0 hard-drives. I wanted to buy a case for them. After considering a lot of hard and soft cases from various sellers, I stumbled upon this and thought of giving it a try. And it was a wise decision !!! As I always say, Amazon Basics items are equivalent (if not better) to quality in other comparable items from different manufacturers and yet they are available at almost half the price (and sometimes even lesser than that). I have many of the Amazon Basics items and I am not unhappy with any of them. And this is no exception. A few good things: 1. The exterior is pretty hard and you can rest assured that your HDD will be protected even if this case is buried deep down in the luggage. 2. Soft interior makes sure that the HDD stays safe even if there is some pressure on it from other items in the luggage. 3. This case is made for HDD which do not require an external power because there is not much space inside for any adapter. However, there is a mesh pocket which can be used to store the USB cod safely. 4.Even if its hard and durable, the case is pretty light-weight and wont ad much weight to your luggage. 5. Although its advertised for Western Digital My Passport but it can be used to store other USB powered HDDs which are up to 5 inches in dimension. I have one of these for my Seagate 1 TB HDD. 6. It also has an elastic band to hold the HDD securely in the case while in use. 7. The zipper is of very good quality and will not fail on you anytime soon. Cons: The only disadvantage I can think of this case is that there is none. If I have to count one, I would say it would have been better had they made a small zipper pocket inside the case (which would be of great use to photographers like me to also store their memory cards in it while on a trip. All in all, this is an excellent case at excellent price. AMAZONBASICS DOES IT AGAIN !!!!!

Indispensable buy any time I get one of my 5 TB Western Digitals. It's really great: the exterior is solid but not inflexible, so it protects the drive, the interior has space for the drive and the connecting chord and the entire thing is compact and fits easily into my backpack.

This case fits the WD My Passord SE 750 GB/ 1TB edition well, with some extra space to spare. It has two pockets which can be used for either the hard drive or the cable. The picture was accurate and showed this quite well. The shell is quite hard, and offers excellent protection from pressure and moderate bumps (not sure how it would hold up with drops...). There is a little extra space for one or two additional cables of similar size to the one that comes with the hard drive. Given that, everything is still extremely secure in both pockets. The zipper is shielded from the inside of the case to avoid scratching - a good design technique. My largest criticism for this case is that there isn't much padding. There is a very thin protective layer that composes the orange material, but it's about 1 millimeter thick and doesn't act well as padding. Because of this, I wouldn't count on exemplary drop protection. Also, there is minimal padding protection between the two sides. I could see sharp objects (especially cable heads) from the screened pocket scratching a hard drive. Also, the fit for the hard drive a little tight in either pocket, making it a wee bit difficult to remove or insert. On the other hand this does offer a very secure fit. Because of the fitting issues, but mostly for the lack of a more protective divider inside the case, I don't think this case quite deserves 5-stars. WD offers a case (which has been criticized as being more accurately represented as a sleeve) that is softer and smaller, but it doesn't offer the same level of crush/pressure protection that this one does. Because the Amazon case is larger, it's doesn't fit an average size pocket well. As a size comparison: the WD case fits inside the Amazon case with the hard drive and USB cable present inside itself. The fit is tight though and I wouldn't doing this recommend this for practical use. Bottom line: this case does what is advertised to do. Personally, I prefer the WD edition. I'm still satisfied with this edition - the WD case just better suits my needs (the small size of the WD case is really nice). I'd recommend this case for anyone looking for the extra protection. The 4 stars are well earned. I'd give 4.25 stars if possible.

The AmazonBasics Small Hard Shell Carrying Case is quite the bargain! I purchased a Western Digital 2TB MyPassport External Hard Drive. I'm willing to pay more for the HD than for what's housing it. The AmazonBasics case was extremely well-priced, and it was made specifically for holding the HD that I was getting. Into my virtual cart it went. I couldn't be happier with this case! If you look at my photos, you'll see that I was easily able to place my HD in one side of the case. It is securely held in by a piece of elastic that reaches from side to side. The elastic measures about 4" across and 1" wide. My HD did not have to be "forced" in; it sits recessed into the side of the case without protruding. On the other half of the case there is a mesh pocket measuring roughly 4" across and 4" top to bottom. I had no problem fitting my HD's user manual, the cable, AND 3 USB flash drives inside this pocket. All of these things fit inside the AmazonBasics case. The case holds everything in place, and is not "over-filled" or hard to close. This case features a zip around closure. I was a bit concerned with this, because initially, the zipper felt a bit tight. I felt that it would snap right off if I didn't exercise some caution. I suggest that you be careful not to pull too hard on the zipper, or try to carry more inside of it than it is intended for. After some time, the rigidity I felt from the zipper began to soften, and now it is perfect. I guess it merely needed to be "worked-in" a little, like a pair of shoes. This AmazonBasics case is not waterproof. It is not bulletproof. It probably won't withstand being in a blast zone, or being tossed from a trans-Atlantic airplane, mid-flight. This case is not DB Cooper. It's implied that you, the consumer, take CARE of your tech and treat it carefully to BEGIN with. You should treat your HD and other tech as though it were not encased, even though it is. With this in mind, the AmazonBasics case is very affordable, and if used mindfully, will protect your HD without a hitch.

I've really gotten to like the Amazon Basics line of peripherals. As a quick example we needed a few HDMI cables for different applications, I have always in the past chosen Monster Cables although have always taken that micro thin gold plating as more of marketing ploy than a true benefit albeit perhaps for the most die hard audiophile. The Monster Cables in the size we needed are sold at places like Best Buy between $69 and $89 - Amazon Basics cables a mere $9.99, it was a no brainer. The cables are excellent, not a single problem and no compromise in audio or video whatsoever. This case is no exception - just perfect for you're Passport. I ordered the 2 TB in black and saw this case pop up on the lower part of the buy page and figured we;;, that makes sense - I hadn't thought about a case. The case itself fits the My Passport perfectly and it's surprisingly well made. A tight outer Nylon shell that looks and feels like Neoprene, sturdy coasted zipper with an Amazon Logo rubber pull and close tab is a nice little touch. Inside there's plenty of room for room the Passport which is held securely in place by a wide elastic easy to slide into band - a mesh pocket on the other holds your USB cable and a few other small items if you need it too. Remember the case is not a "Hard Shell" but it's robust enough to protect your Passport, the cable and a few other items from both the elements and with fingers crossed an unfortunate drop. It's great for when your on the run, need to grab your grab you external drive in hurry and go! It's fit in oversized pockets and I would imagine any briefcase, shoulder bag or Lap Top carrying bag with ease. As for the Amazon Basics Packaging - I'm a fan. Less crap in our landfills, easy to open and you still get every single item and all instructions, paper - works etc that you would in retail packaging. What is more, to those of you who can emphasis with how much I despise those hermetically sealed heavy duty clamshell packages which you need the "JAWS OF LIFE" to one get open and two - not cut yourself this is major improvement. It’s a very nice case for protecting your tiny gear. For whomever it is worth, it fits the TE CM-15 perfectly.
