I ordered these dimmers primarily because my nightstands are tall and I’m unable to reach the lamp switch to turn off the lamp when I’m lying in bed. I also have cats and any of you who have cats know that once your cat has settled on top of you you can’t move, so that also kept me from being able to turn out the lamp on my nightstand sometimes 😉. My main goal was to have a switch on the side of my nightstand that would allow me to turn the light off and on while sitting or lying in bed. The bonus I got and hadn’t really thought about was that this converted my one-way lamps to a fully dimmable lamp, which, in my opinion, is even better than a three-way bulb because I have more brightness levels to choose from and I don’t have to buy expensive three-way bulbs. When I first installed it, the bulb wasn’t dimming, but I realized that was because I didn’t have a dimmable bulb in the lamp. Once I swapped the bulb, it worked really well. I’m very very pleased with how this worked out! The attached photos show the control switch, which conveniently fit into the clip I already had on the side of my nightstand, to hold my phone charger cord.

I've been in love with lighting dimmer controls for decades. I have them all over my home. Being able to go from bright task lighting to soft, relaxing ambient light level is wonderful. I have 3 metal architect task lights that I use with grow light bulbs for my plants. Unfortunately, the on/off switch on the one used for my California False Aralia broke. These "twist" type on/off knobs are notorious for eventually becoming defective. I decided to move one of the remaining lights to my Aralia rather buy a new light. I used to use incandescent grow light bulbs but switched to LED type several years ago. I decided to plug the light into Lutron table top dimmer that I have but it would only dim the light, it would not turn off completely because it's not for LED type bulbs. I've never bought a Dewenwils brand dimmer before, so I wasn't sure how well they work or if I would like it. I was so happy to discover it works great! I opted for the black & it's inconspicuous. The slide switch control is terrific & I can tell by the "feel" of the slide control when the light is fully turned off. It also allows me to control the light level from full illumination to soft light, I can mimic full sunlight to a gradual "sunset" level of light in the evening before I turn it off. I definitely recommend this dimmer & would definitely buy again when & if I need another table top dimmer control.

PROS: - The slide switch is very smooth and quiet - No “jumps” in light dimming - Nice long 6.6 ft. cord on the dimmer control - Easy to install – just plug it in CONS: - No clear disconnect “click” when turned off, so possibly uses a trickle of power even when off - Must use an adapter if lamp plug is 3-prong - Sticks out from wall several inches -- 1.5 in. power plug plus potential adapter plus lamp plug - Must use power strip if controlling more than one small lamp Even with the above caveats, I'd buy it again. UPDATE: ***Now that the slider switch is getting "broken in," I can tell that it does indeed have an off "click" that reassures me it's completely turned off and not wasting a "trickle" of power when off.

The dimmer is probably fine for other lights or fixtures. As clearly stated in the product description, this doesn't work on all lights. I bought 'Holiday Bright Lights(tm) Starry Twinkle Light Set' from Blain's Farm & Fleet and was hoping to dim them as they are a bit too bright on the Christmas tree. (Pic 1 without dimmer.) At the highest setting on the dimmer (2nd pic), they appear HALF their original brightness and do not twinkle. The twinkle bulbs stay unlit. They do dim down to like 25% and turn off in the 'Off' position. However I was hoping to use full brightness during the day and turn them down at night. Not twinkling is a deal breaker for me. Returned.

I bought these because I had touch lamps that stopped working (they would not turn on and off when I touched them anymore). I did not want new lamps, so I plugged these dimmer switch lamps in instead and they work great. You need to make sure your lamps have dimmer light bulbs in them, but they work well and I appreciate being able to turn my light on and off without having to do it from the wall plug!

This is plug in lamp dimmer switch suitable for LED or incandescent lights. It says CFL lights as well but I didn’t have one of those handy so can’t say how well it works with those. However, otherwise, this is something that really makes a difference in your home decor. I bought a pair of electric hurricane lamps with a marble base that is 40s to 50s vintage. These are the kind with the smaller shades and is possible to hang crystals on it. I bought crystals and needed to buy new felt for the bottom. I had a few incandescent teardrop shaped bulbs that were white. Just the pair sitting there looks great with the old-style knotty pine paneling in much of the house. But when I paired it with this dimmer switch, it went from looking great to absolutely fantastic. Because it’s dimmed, the white tear drop bulbs show up through the frosted glass. I leave it on all the time at the lowest setting and it makes quite a statement. I don’t think anyone’s mentioned this but this is a mechanical dimmer switch. The advantage of being mechanical over electronic is there’s less to go wrong. And, if the power goes off, when it comes back on, the lamp lights at the chosen setting. The only change I made was adding a three-outlet plug adapter on the end as I have it going to a pair of lamps. The switch sits in the back largely unnoticed. These types of lamps are perfect to pair up on a fireplace mantle, a buffet, on top of a china cabinet or wherever your imagination takes you. The cord is long enough but not too long to be a problem. Given the fact this is a mechanical switch, I feel it’ very reasonably priced and very subtly will enhance your room’s lighting effects.

THIS IS SUCH A NO-BRAINER ! SO, SO SIMPLE. JUST PLUG THE LAMP PLUG INTO THIS , THEN PLUG THE NEW PLUG IN TO YOUR WALL PLUG-IN - DONE AND DONE! IT GIVES ME EXACTLY WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I CAN TURN THE LAMP ON AND OFF AND DIM IT TO WHATEVER LEVEL I WANT USING THE LITTLE SLIDING LIGHT SWITCH. WE TRIED A CLAPPER AND IT WAS KIND OF CUTE - WITH NO HELP FROM US - IT TURNED ON THE LAMP AS IT WAS GETTING DARK OUTSIDE, BUT ONLY RESPONDED TO CLAPPING SOUNDS IF WE WERE STANDING AND CLAPPING RIGHT CLOSE TO THE TOP OF THE LAMP. THAT DEFEATED THE PURPOSE FOR HAVING IT. I'M REALLY GLAD WE CONTINUED TO SEARCH. THIS IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!
