A loop with culture
I ordered this for the usual purpose -- transferring inoculum to microscope slides, selecting colonies for transfer to new media etc. This is a very nice unit. It has a long handle (useful for reaching into culture tubes) and it comes with a vial of replacement nichrome loops. Nichrome is a durable choice for this purpose as it withstands flame sterilization with ease, so you don't have to throw it out after a single use. (You flame before and after use.) The construction is pretty simple -- there are two cuts at right angles to each other at the end of the threads. You insert the loop, and then tighten down the cap. There was a bit of debris from the manufacturing process that kept me from being able to insert the loop until I discovered and removed the debris. But that is a very minor defect. Anyway, this is an excellent and cost-effective choice and I recommend it highly. It also came quickly and well packaged.

Great, once I got it put together.
I had trouble getting the loop into the handle. There was no opening to be seen or pushed into. After reading another review, they said they had to clean it out. I tried that but it still would not accept the loop but would accept a pin. I had to use the pin to wedge it open and then get the loop in. Once I got the loop in, the system worked perfectly. It's just the manufacturing did not produce the proper slits needed.

Needed Tool for Bacteria Transfer
I used these years ago while maintaining cultures in the bio lab. They are a must have for clean transfers and inoculation of agar medium.

Perfect for the job
they came quick. it comes with many extra loops that are in their own little tube. The handle is very sturdy, and perfect for what its supposed purpose.

Usable. Good for the price.
I post as a clinical and public health microbiologist of 50 years experience. The handle and loops arrived as expected in good shape. The loops were made of a medium weight material which flamed nicely. The material was a bit too heavy and did not have the flexibility needed for efficient streaking to petri dishes. When inserted into the handle only to the point where it was secure you are left with about one and a half inch of working length requiring that a portion of the shank and handle are over the plate. The handle chuck was milled so that the jaws had no place to insert the loop stem. This can be corrected by inserting a needle in the space where the loop was to fit and prying the jaws apart. This permitted the loop stem to be inserted but it must be inserted with the handle screw on the stem followed by tightening rather than placing the loop into handle directly. This system should work well for people doing very basic microbiology such as students or hobbyists or those using it in non-microbiologic, technique neutral activity. The price is extremely low; basic "professional" handles can run around ten dollars each or more and longer, more flexible, loops will begin at about five dollars each. A good deal for the price but consider how you will use the product.

Read the 1- and 2-star reviews before ordering
The handle has a three-prong claw at the end that should open when the screw top is loosened so that the straight end of the loop can be inserted and then the screw top tightened down to hold the loop in place. ? Apparently several other consumers had the same problem. Gunsmith husband was able to make some adjustments to get the first loop inserted into the handle, but this was an unnecessary frustration. Apparently not all the handles have this problem, but some do. So, do you feel lucky, or at least prepared to work on opening the three-prong end?

Does what it says
The metal loop attachment was flimsy so i just reinforced it with another loop, twisting them together, to pick up (isolate) heavy agar pieces (colonies).

Good Product IMO, Feels Durable / Sturdy
Nothing about the product, in my opinion, is flimsy or cheap; however, though the loops are held sturdily by the mechanism provided, I find the design to be odd / somewhat wanting.
