Great earplugs
I like these. They are the fourth pair of "nice" earplugs I've tried (I'm not counting the regular foam ones, which don't even fit into my ears), and have so far been the best. They fit snugly in my ear and really filter the sound well, and generally stay put well too (I dance in them, including fast spins, and they do not slip out at all - however, like most earplugs, you may notice when you smile or move your face in certain ways, they may open up slightly, or if you exercise vigorously in them like me and get sweaty. I've found this with every earplug I've tried, but these seem to do it less than others). They also are not very noticeable with the clear stems, which I like. They are also easy to insert and remove. The only issue I have is that they are uncomfortably tight - at the end of a couple of hours, while my ears are thankfully not ringing, they are in pain from being squeezed by these things. As a caveat, I do have really tiny ear canals, so it may just be me. They also are better than another pair I tried that was really inflexible and even more painful - these at least have some give. Then again, I wonder if these would be snug enough for large ear canals, but maybe the flexibility would make them adaptable. Regardless, they've worked well for me overall and I find myself reaching for these every time and leaving my other ear plugs at home. I haven't used them long enough to see how they'll hold up, but the plastic seems sturdier than another brand I tried with a similar construction. I would recommend trying them, especially if you have smaller ear canals and regular plugs don't fit. Update 7/16: I have changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars and ordered a second backup pair, because these earplugs have remained a favorite. The main downside is that if you are using them during heavy activity when you are sweating and moving a lot, you might find yourself having to push them back in fairly regularly. I only use them for dancing so I don't know if this would be an issue for other activities. However, compared to the benefits and considering the price, I think these are a great buy. Also, people almost never notice that I am wearing them, even when my hair is up, which is great - I love that they are discreet. They also really filter sound well without giving you that muffled feeling. Highly recommended! Update 5/17: I am still using and enjoying these earplugs. However, I must note that they are NOT sufficient for very high volumes. I recently attended a music event and wore these throughout, but experienced horrible ringing in my ears for days afterwards. They are still good earplugs and have saved me at other times, but be aware that for a certain level of noise you will need something with more protection.

Music Festival Tested Good
I was just at Austin City Limits Music Festival. I ordered these too late, so day 1 I had to use foam earplugs. With foam earplugs the sound gets muffled so much I end up just plugging one ear and leaving the other exposed to damage from too much volume. I would alternate ears to even out the damage; not recommended. Day 2 and 3 of the festival I had these. The sound was so much better I would leave them both in for all the bands where we got anywhere near the stage. They do cut down the noise less than the foam earplugs (I'd guess 12dB is accurate, no way it is 20dB) but they cut it down much more evenly. Because the sound sounds good I would actually use them a lot more. As for comfort these aren't as comfortable as foam. They are stiffer rubber and feel uncomfortable as you stick them in. However, once they were in I found I got used to them and after awhile didn't notice them anymore. Taking them out also isn't fun, I don't recommend taking them in and out a lot. Put them in, leave them in for an hour or two. They do securely stay in once they are there, which is nice. On the minor things I like the little rubber case they come in. Squeeze the case to open it, pinch it to securely close it. Well designed. As are the little neck cord you can attach if you are into that sort of thing. Also I liked the mini-chain so you could attach the case to your keys or a belt loop if you wanted to.

Great for concerts - somewhat painful.
I use the ear plugs at concerts - everything from metal to electronic. Overall, they work pretty well and they don't muffle to vocals as terribly as foam ear plugs. I think they do a good job at protecting your ears from the loud music, and I haven't had any of that pleasant ringing that continues for days after the concert since I started using these. They provide good protection even when standing directly in front of the amps in the front row. My main complaint would be that they do not sit very comfortably in my ears. I have to twist them quite a bit to get them at an angle which is somewhat comfortable, and the longer they remain in, the more the inside of my ears start to ache. This could by my ears - I don't know, but it's something to consider. I've found myself taking them out and popping in foam ear plugs whenever a band comes on stage who I don't care for (as the music quality is much higher with these compared to foam ear plugs). I'll be trying something else next time a buy, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair if I can't find something better. They are definitely an upgrade from disposable foam ear plugs for anyone interested in enjoying a concert without getting tinnitus.

A necessary product to own, even if you only use them once
I've owned these for a bit over a year and used them a few times now. Perfect product and as my headline says I think they're vital for anyone who's planning on being in a loud environment (like a concert, rave, etc) to own. I've suffered hearing loss a couple of times in my life due to a physical injury to my head. I've recovered (at least like 95% anyway) but I take hearing damage very seriously now. It's miserable. These earplugs don't alter sounds in any noticeable (or at least not negative) way, just bring down the dB levels overall. So at a rave or a concert or whatever, you'll be hearing the music clearly almost like you didn't have earplugs in, it'll just be quieter. I don't know if I'd say you'll forget they're in, but they definitely aren't uncomfortable. I wore these to a rave where I was almost right by the speakers for like 1-2 hours and I didn't feel the need to take them out at all. 20 dollars sounds like a lot for earplugs, but these aren't just some ordinary plugs you can buy at like CVS (well maybe you can, I've never looked lol). And 20 dollars is a small price to pay for significantly lowering your risk of hearing damage over time if you're someone who is around loud noise a lot, whether for work or fun. Heck, even if you only ever plan to go to a loud event just once in your life, I'd still say these are a must buy to avoid some temporary (or if you're unlucky, permanent) tinnitus after.

This purchase was a No-Brainer!
I bought these earplugs for a VERY loud concert. Not wanting to damage my hearing has become more important in my older years. That led to my purchase of these ear plugs. First off, they come in a nice little plastic case. A basic but functional neck cord is also included. I think it would be ok for short periods of having them resting on your neck (and out of the ear) but not for the long term, as they might fall to the ground. The build quality seems very good for what they are. After all, there isn’t much to them. I wore them the entire concert. They cut down the loud noises significantly, to the point where I was very comfortable. The best part is, even though I had the plugs in, I could still hear the music and enjoy it. As a matter of a fact, the degree of loudness was about ideal (with the plugs in). They were also very comfortable in terms of the fit. In summary, I like them a lot. For a very small investment you get a 20DB reduction in sound (as stated in the specs) that will help us concert goers better protect our hearing!

Not Quite as Advertised
A recent inductee into the migraine hall of fame I went looking for ways to cut the noise. (My Bose QuietComforts are great but you can't wear them around town and even the in ear version was a little above my price point for something that could be so easily lost. So I went ou on Amazon and picked a few different pair to try, all under $20. From the write-up and reviews I thought the Etymotic's were going to be a favorite. However I find putting them in a bit fiddly (though that aspect should resolve over timep) and they're not as comfortable as I'd expect/like (again something which might change over time or if I purchased the small). They have a lanyard (a necessity for taking phone calls) and the noise attenuation is up the middle — not too much to hear average conversation among a noisy background but enough to keep things quiet. They do, however, work as advertised and will be an addition to my new earplug "wardrobe."

Essential gear for music venues!
If you've never tried these christmas tree shaped ear plugs DO IT NOW. They are awesome for music venues and concerts! I get overwhelmed by how loud it can get and these cut down on volume, but without muffling. It's like equal frequency lowering. I Also love the clear color for distraction (don't want people to think I'm blocking out all sound). I usually bring two or three pairs and I always have friends who want to borrow them and love them. They also come with a little carrying case for your purse or pocket so you don't lose them. Worth every penny!

got'em and never regretted'em
In my use case I'm a music producer (mostly EDM/IDM) and when it comes to hearing, being able to pick out frequency ranges for your VSTi/instrument's overtones is super important for engineering the sounds into the songs you're making. So I found it to be of the utmost importance to carry a set of earplugs that both complement the safety of my ears and enjoyment of the events I go to. For the price and what you get the etymotics are an easy recommendation for anyone else who was teetering on the edge for a set. The only real downside is that there's a sharp dropoff of decibels for range of like 5K and up, but custom earplugs are for that purpose of protecting and listening at a premium. I found the neck attachment super useful since unless you get a custom fit earplugs - you'll need to be taking these out for your own comfort and making sure your ears can breathe at the events you're attending, and you don't have to constantly open that plastic casing that's honestly frustrating to open. (it's also short enough that it doesn't move around a lot whilst dancing or doing other fast activity.) Normally you shouldn't take a risk on buying something that may not fit you, but you can get your ear canal measured at say Costco or finally have that ear checkup you've been needing so you can get your official measurements. But if you're typically average in whatever sizings you've taken then take the chance because your hearing can never regenerate with our current technology :( $20 is a good buy for something you can never get back. It's 1000000000× of an upgrade compared to the pharmacy store foam earplugs and unlike those these are more comfortable AND safely reusable.
