Very nice looking Katana (mail opener). Blade is not sharp per se, in the sense of cutting you, but is plenty sharp to open letters. I haven't tried, but my guess is it could cut through boxing tape? The only concern I had was how tough it was to initially pull out of Saya (blade case). I thought it might have been glued in by accident, it was so tight. I was worried I was gong to break it when I was pulling to open it. Needless to say, by the pictures, it opened, and now is easy to slide in and out of Saya. Very sturdy and great value for the money spent.

Bought this as a gift for my hubby (paired with a history book about Japanese swords) and he absolutely loved it. The sword is surprisingly really well made for how inexpensive it is, and he loves that it comes with its own little display. The sword is actually fairly heavy for its size, which also makes it feel more expensive and well made than it might be. It's small enough that it fits perfectly on a bookshelf in our home - still a statement piece without taking up too much room (and also attractive enough to go with pretty much any decor). It came looking exactly like the picture. You have to assemble the display yourself and the display is a little wobbly, but if it's on a shelf it's stable and won't get knocked around. The blade isn't as sharp as say a chef's knife, but do you really want it to be when all you're doing is opening packages or envelopes with it? And for us we never use it; it's decoration more than anything. All in all, a great gift. Would highly recommend for any samurai sword fanatics in your life.

I got this as a semi-joke gift for my husband after he had been playing Ghost of Tsushima and taking about how much he'd like a real samurai sword from Japan. Since I can't afford to drop a thousand bucks on that, I decided to go for a letter opener to go with our little Game of Thrones sword letter opener that we have. We both were amazed by the quality for the price and he absolutely loved it. It is just barely sharp enough to open letters though I think this will become more a decor piece for us, as it is really too large to be a letter opener. Definitely a cool little piece to have on our bookshelf of nerdy stuff. Very happy with the purchase.

Beautiful sword, but I got a stand infested with mold with my order, this is the only reason why this review isn’t 5 stars. The craftsmanship, weight and size of this sword are perfect for display, however the presentation and packaging needs some improvement. I’m on the fence about keeping it due to the stand situation though.

Full points on the coolness factor, the blade even makes a satisfying "click" sound when you sheath it. Visually-wise, it looks like a katana shrunken in half all while maintaining similar proportions to the real thing. Functionally-wise however, it's still too big. In a form vs function debate, this would be more of a display piece that can also double as a letter opener. That being said, if you're here, you know what you're getting this for. It's worth mentioning that the katana arrived completely blunt and couldn't cut through paper at first. This can be remediated with a whetting stone or some hand files, but be aware it takes a moment of sharpening before it can be usable as a letter opener. I gave mine just enough of a cutting edge so as to not damage the finish. The braided cord also arrived untied on mine and I had to spend a few minutes on the internet finding out how to tie a decent-looking minimized sageo knot.

Gentlemen, (and ladies of course) this is one of the coolest desk ornaments there is! Not only is it a 15.5 inch, exact replica of the notorious sword, it is a very effective letter opener. That's what it's for, but it is quite a bit of an eye catcher too; it has a real, high gloss, dark wooden scabbard . And the blade is a 440 steel, mirror shined, laser etched, beautiful thing to see! The handle wrappings are good enough for a firm, comfortable grip... Cool.. Very cool.

I love this. First, I had no idea that it is a mini replica of Bill's Hattori Hanzo sword from the Kill Bill movies (to the seller:you mention it's Bill's sword, but I think if you stated t more definitely you would sell more to fans). Once I got it I noticed it was dull, but I ran it through a knife sharpener a few times and it opens boxes and letters fine for me. It is a lot larger than most letter openers, but it gave it's size in the title, so I was expecting that. Even if it just sits on my desk and never gets used, its decorative value alone makes me feel like I made a great purchase.Plus, this is really well made, (I've sent a few of the other sword letter openers on the site back already because they were really cheaply made...glad I finally found a keeper) I was surprised how well made it was for the pice I paid actually. I definitely recommend this product.
