TotalBoat Wet Edge is hands down one of the best topside paints I’ve used. The application process was incredibly smooth — it levels beautifully, even with a brush or roller, and dries to a high-gloss, professional-looking finish. One of the best features is how durable and long-lasting it is. It holds up well in tough marine conditions, resisting UV rays, saltwater, and weathering with no peeling or fading even after extended exposure. The coverage is excellent, and it’s available in a great selection of vibrant, lasting colors. Whether you’re touching up or doing a full refinish, this paint gives a strong, clean, and polished look that really lasts. If you want a reliable, high-quality marine paint that’s easy to work with and delivers exceptional results, TotalBoat Wet Edge is the way to go.

First, I had never painted a boat and was dubious about reports of near-spray quality results with any of the boat paints. My boat is old so I figured anything would be an improvement. I chose Total Boat mainly because it was easier through Amazon. I mixed two parts Yellow with one part Fighting Lady. (Can't add pigment. You have to mix Wet Edge paint instead). I was amazed at the smooth finish of the final paint job. I think that it is 85% of a spray job. If I had thought that it would turn out this well I would have been more careful with the primer coats and prep. Advice: Painting outdoors is challenging. Each coat takes several days to dry and then you have to fight rain, humidity and temperature. I finished it in the garage and it was a snap. For me, the primer was really thick, went on with a lot of orange peel and it dried slowly, and it was clumping during sanding because I didn't let it cure (all problems were user error). When the primer was cured it was easily sanded down and may have helped with smoothing the fiberglass imperfections. The primer prep is he key to a quality paint job. Take your time here. The paint went on well. The first coat had some orange peel because I put it on too thick and didn't have a quality paint brush. It was remediated when I sanded it down (again, wait for it to cure!). I applied the last coat uncomfortably thin with tip and roll, and it turned out marvelous! It took 1 gallon of primer and about 1/2 gallon of paint for an 18' boat. Use a 1/8" foam roller (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0168S0ETE?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) for the areas you want to look perfect, and use a true badger hair brush (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000N9LE80?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1). It is worth the money for this task.

Amazon: They don't know how to ship the paint so it doesn't get damaged. First gallon of paint arrived damaged. The Amazon computerized return system was going to make me ship it back or some nonsense like that. Without opening I contacted Amazon directly and was sent a second can. Luckily I didn't try to use it, eventually I opened it and it had skinned over 1/4" thick! Product: the product is very hard to use and takes a lot of patience. 1) must use primer. I had a newly created boat and tried to paint (only) some hard to reach areas during assembly. It took many coats, at least 4, for coverage. It also eventually yellowed so it may not be suited for semi-enclosed spaces. 2) it doesn't follow out at all if unthinned. If unthinned it skins over so quick it's hard to keep a wet edge. If you attempt to tip it, it just leaves brush marks in the paint. Unthinned, but thinly applied, it still takes well over 24 hours to "dry". If you apply it thick enough to self level a bit it never dries fully and is a soft gummy mess. 3) If you thin it enough to follow out and keep a wet edge and tip well, it takes over 36 hours to dry, maybe 48 hours. Good luck keeping dust out of something sticky for 48 hours!! When thinned enough to tip it's coverage is even worse, and took 3 coats to cover totalboat's white primer. It took forever, since you need to wait at least 2 days between coats to wet sand out all the dust! 4) I've also tried using it to apply softsand and we'll see if it ever dries. I think that the "overly thick" coat that forms (all the valleys in the nonskid) means it will never dry. It's been drying for 3 days now - still wet. Recommendation: don't use this paint.

This paint laid down beautifully during spraying, The roll tip was ok after coat 1, I did roll tip 2 coats, them sprayed two coats because i had alot of product left. The outcome after 3 coats was very nice. Even in the humid Mississippi weather, which sorry guys the humidity here is the worst no contest. But fall season is when i sprayed on purpose after I read the reviews. Pant sprayed a long way dried in about 3/4 days. But what concerns me at this point is why use this product? Cost. What is a couple hundred dollars for an extra easy 10 years with a two-part paint and all the work and timing of painting over three plus weeks easy, I used this on a fiberglass camper so I may get a good 10 years? I'm 50 so at best case I am repainting again at 60. This is crazy. I was not aware until I started looking back about how put a gell coat or protectant on it. I used two part paint 25 years ago on a couple cars and they are still looking great and when I say this product I thought new improved paint and etc and all the crazy internet reviews saying this product was top rated. But now I'm thinking mistake. I will be putting total boat wax on this product. Until I guess I recoat in 10 years if I can climb the ladder? This is not such a bad thing because I'm sure there will be some fiberglass repairs at that time or maybe I want to change color :), which is the only thing that has me somewhat happy about what I decide to use wetedge. Also, knowing the average life of this paint is 5 years why would I spend $ on 3m vinyl graphics. I wish I would have went with 2 part but that totalboat name fooled me I think. I wish there was a gelcoat or etc that could be applied over this for additional 10 years. In that case 5 stars easy.
