I was surprised with this book, it was better than expected. Many of todays books lack information and photos to backup that information, however this book did not do that. I was using it to teach my kids (people under 40 years of age are kids) about some of the basics of home electric and this book does a good job of doing that. It goes over tools and how to use them, It goes over test equipment and again, how to use them. It also goes over some of the smaller details, for example the correct way to wrap or circle your wire around the screw on an electrical outlet, which not many do now a days. Most people want to push the wire through the back hole and think it will hold, maybe. Further, the photos are good , clear , and in color which when working with white, black, green, and red helps a great deal. All in all I like this book and I may buy some more and hand them out as Christmas gifts. Hope this helps, be careful out there , and be safe, and as my Electronic teacher would say when all else fails follow the instructions. :-) Don't guess if you don't know what your doing contact a Cert. Electrician to do the work.

Great book, just finished it completely (+300 pages). Learned a lot as a newbie. I always wanted to know how household electricity works and have knowledge on DIY homeowner basics for electricity. The book has a lot of pictures and goes from basics to complex topics including how things work such as basic wiring, grounding, switches, fixtures, low/high voltage power, types of receptacles/lightings, splicing cables, wire gauge/amps, short circuits, ground faults, dimmer lighting, low voltage transformers, main service panel, & much more. You can see that it is a great starter book for electricians. One thing I think the book should have done is started with the fundamentals early on instead of leaving it more than halfway in the book. Otherwise great book.

This book has helped me with many projects around my home. I’ve added receptacles added fans light switches. I’ve even run floodlights wired in the junction boxes. This is a great source of information for anyone who is trying to do the work themselves. The best thing about it is it tells you how to do it the right way to do something. Wiring is not something to play with. If you don’t know what you’re doing this book gives you the knowledge to comfortably do certain task. I’m not saying that you’ll be able to do every type of wiring in your home. You just might not be comfortable doing that. However it does give you the ability to do small jobs that would cost you hundreds of dollars for someone else to do it. You can actually do large jobs if you’re not afraid to tackle it it’s a great value that you pay it save me several dollars at home over period time this book and some advance knowledge I would definitely purchase this again

I was grateful to have new technology included, I have not done electrical work for a decade, so I was glad for the How-To-Do DYI on newer products. I bought a home 8 years ago, and was aghast at how many code violations I found in the then 12 year-old home. Most of which I knew how to correct. However, over time we decided to make improvements which lead to new applications/appliances to be installed or changed out. Great illustrations and tips how to avoid errors in wiring.

As a beginner this book helped me a lot. I am so glad I bought it.
