Beautifully designed clock
Really love this mantel clock! Has a really striking design and looks great on my shelf. Included photo for scale as it was bigger than I imagined but I’m not disappointed by that. It’s made of plastic and doesn’t weigh too much but I don’t think that’s relevant to the quality. The build is still excellent and as promised it’s totally silent. Just got it so can’t speak to the reliability, but other clocks I have from Newgate/Jones are very reliable so I expect no difference here. It’s not cheap but for something you’ll have as long as this I think it’s worth spending a bit on something that’ll be better engineered & designed than a cheapo one.

Silent and keeps time well.
Good looking and keeps good time. Make sure you put a good battery in it - or it does make a noise. Otherwise it's perfectly silent running.

Excellent purchase!
Does exactly what it is supposed to... silent and on time! It looks good but I wished that it would have been a little more solid and not just made of thin plastic. Overall an excellent purchase for our home as it fits perfectly at the place of the old clock.

This is a silent two handed clock, it is a really classic design that is easy to read and is quite classy in a casual space.

Designed in Britain, Assembled in China!
iconic look missing the ticking hand:- would have been brillant if it incoporated the seconds arm ticking away whilst telling the time, as nothing else moves on the face of the clock, at a second glance:- you wonder if the clovk is switched on or it is working, is it? There is no other parts at the rear of clock to indicate it is on after slotting in the AA battery! i suggest a red seconds-arm to tick away to bring to live the clock face! otherwise the clock doesnt functionally interact n communicates it is alive and working to tell the yime, the knobs behind are too small to set clock:hour n minutes hands to the correct time before letting it then work towards telling the correct time!, it keeps time telling corectly: not slow or fast! i still think for the next upgrade product improvrment is to ADD A RED seconds ticking away to show stepless movement to clock face! The train station clock is: see the one in KINGS CROSS LONDON and you will see how much more the station clock communicates :- time is moving on....

This black clock arrived a couple of hours ago, but I also have another Newgate clock -- a green one. I went back and forth, trying to decide which one to put in the two available places. That's because both colors look good in both locations. In the end, I decided to put the green one in my bedroom and the black one in my living room. Now for my quibbles. First, the background on the black clock's face is not the pure, bright white shown in the product photos online. It's more of a cream/beige color in real life. To be fair, it's not a huge deal. If the product photos had shown the creamy color, I still would have ordered it because I like the clarity of the markings and how bold the clock looks from a distance. I like that there's not a second hand sweeping around the clock's face, nor is there an arm for setting an alarm (because this is not an alarm clock). I like that uncluttered look, without those lesser arms competing for my attention. On some of the clocks I looked at when searching Amazon for new clocks, I noticed many that had very confusing clock faces because in some cases those extra arms looked a lot like the hour and minute hands in both size and color. Ugh. My other quibble is the design of the back of the clock. Really, Newgate, couldn't you have done a better job with that? There's no cover over the clock's innards. It isn't a problem for my uses where the back won't show, but what about folks who want to put the clock on a table that can be approached from both the front and back? It'd be an eyesore. Yesterday I had to return another clock, not one of Newgate's, that was way too small for me to read from a distance and which was not big enough to make a statement, decor-wise. It was too bad because it was a lovely clock and quite different from other clocks I looked at. The size of the Newgate's clock almost made me decide against ordering it. I feared it'd be too big for where I wanted to put it. I'm glad I got over that and ordered anyway because the size does not seem like a drawback at all. I don't think I ever had a clock before that keeps time quite like this one does. As the minute changes, other clocks move the minute hand forward in a little jump, but on this clock the minute hand glides throughout the minutes with no abrupt movements. Thankfully, the clock is totally silent. I don't know why anyone would want a clock that ticks, and don't get me started on clocks that chime on the hour or ones that pop out a noisy little bird. If you're on the fence about buying this clock, it's returnable -- so go ahead and take a chance. I bet you won't be disappointed.
