I find that this Lisle oil filter wrench is better than the other designs (3-claw, rubber strap) because it is less bulky to fit in tight engine spaces and doesn’t require the tool to fit perfectly over the filter to remove it. The 3-claw type for example is quite bulky, needs to first fit square over the filter, then turned slightly to shrink the claws and grip the filter, then turned again to start removing. With the Lisle design, I can go in over the filter even at a slight angle, force the tool against the filter to expand the spring, and the claws dig in to the filter as soon as I start turning. Just make sure your filter is te right size for the tool to fit over. The Lisle 63600 can remove filters between 2 1/2” to 3 1/8” in diameter.

I use this filter wrench daily at work for filter removal, and it's awesome. Here's what you need to know: Advantages: - It's very reliable and, if it fits onto a filter, it practically never fails to remove it. The more force you apply, the more it clamps down. - It's compact and doesn't take up a lot of space in your toolbox drawer. - It fits most common car/SUV/pickup oil filters. - There are no gear teeth to strip out like on the spider-style (claw-style) wrenches, so it is very durable. (Minor) Weaknesses: - Does not work well if the filter is accessed at a sideways angle (for example, 2024 and older Chevy Traverses with the 3.6L engine do not have much filter "overhead" space; a pliers-style wrench is better). - Also may not fit in situations where the filter is tucked up close against another component, like an oil pan or cooler. The jaws are thicker than the "legged" wrenches, which can obstruct access in a few specific cases. - The spring can come loose if you snag it just right, and it's small enough to get lost easily if it does. This isn't a problem most of the time, but I did have to replace the spring once (It still works without the spring, but you have to start the clamping action with your hand). Important note: Using an extension between the filter wrench and your ratchet of choice usually works best. That's it! It's a fantastic tool and my immediate recommendation for those working in the auto industry, and it's great for any DIYer as well. There's also a larger version for wider filters found on many older American models.

Triumph filter levered on by dealers made an oil change an absolute hassle with oem cap slipping off filter. This sorted it no problem.

Adecuado para filtros pequeños donde no hay mucho espacio para maniobrar, la mordaza sólo afloja así que no hay riesgo de apretar de más el filtro
