Pac-Flat Reflector for Original Candle Lantern silver Count of 2

This is a very simple device which does exactly what it's supposed to do: reflect light downward from a hanging candle lantern. It's well-designed and reasonably well-made of stainless sheet metal with brass locking buttons. It may be a little overpriced considering its simplicity, but if you need it, and you probably do, nothing else really works as well. To keep it working well you may want to be fanatical about keeping it free of scratches and fingerprints. You may want to polish it occasionally with some kind of stainless or chrome polish. The only inconvenient thing about this product is that it doesn't really fit very well in any of the various bags or sacks designed to carry candle lanterns, and you must be careful how you carry it to avoid the aforementioned scratches. I've presently got mine padded and packed in my cookset, which is effective and not entirely inappropriate given its utility as a coffee filter cone. A very useful item and highly recommended.

This shade works perfectly. I’m very impressed with the amount of light it reflects down. The higher up you hang the light the better the concentrated light is. But ... it should come with a warning label that it’s a lot like handling a razor blade. The edge is incredibly sharp. I used sandpaper to get rid of the bur on the edge and now I’m completely satisfied with it.

So this little add on is pretty cool. It does reflect the light downward nicely compared to just the plane UCO candle lantern. It can also be used as a pour over coffee funnel when used with a coffee filter. How cool is that!? But it has one major flaw that keeps it from being 5 stars... the edges of the metal half discs are QUITE sharp! The edges should have been rounded off in production but they skipped that step when making these. Being that these are stainless steel you will need to make sure you use appropriate methods if you want to round of the edges yourself so as not to introduce ferrous metal and start the rusting process. I got a small cut or two simply from opening the packaging and trying to put it together the first time. Also the sharp edges will slowly slice up and ruin any type of bag or packaging you would store these in without some kind of cardboard sleeve that you can replace when it wears out...unless you round them off of course.

Well made, and very easy to use once you understand how it works. I keep it with the kit for my single use lantern that I bought also from UCO. I haven't had reason yet to use it, so that will be a future update. It's definitely very lightweight for your kit, and looks good sitting on top the lantern. I think it's a great addition to the kit for the value.

Used this on my candle lantern and it seemed brighter to me under the hanging candle - packs flat so easy to take with - handle the edges of the reflector carefully both while on lantern and while packed.

This works well, for what it is. I mean, you aren’t putting this on your dad’s Coleman lantern! Quickly assembles and drops over the top of your lantern. As others have stated, this thing is razor sharp, so be careful. You can buff down the edge to help, but the steel is so thin it doesn’t help a lot.

Although not brilliantly designed (as in, there are other ways to hold a bend in metal, this store-flat, fold-into-shape top reflector is an important addition to the UCO Candle Lantern. I have a couple of the old (thicker) brass lanterns, and when you carry one of these at night, it is very difficult to see the ground because the upward light contracts the irises in my eyes. This not only shields my eyes, but also reflects more light down. So, yeah, I would cut open a can and after flattening it have half-arsed reflector. Sigh. Anyway, well done, UCO. I purchased this hood not so much to use as a shade hood on top of the lantern but to use it with a sold separately by a different manufacturer base stand adapter to prevent the lantern from toppling over when it was sitting on a flat surface and not being hung by the chain. I wrestled with this flimsy hood for an hour before the simple adapter would mount correctly as the slightest pressure and the two pieces of the hood would prang apart. The four retaining studs on the hood (two on each half) are a terrible design. You should be able to put the two halves of the hood together easily and it should stay together until moderate deliberate force is exerted to get the two hood halves apart for storage. Even when using the hood on top of the lantern it wobbles and doesn’t seat firmly. Are you listening UCO? The four locking studs to keep the hood together shouldn’t be just smooth studs that can’t hold anything. The studs should be mushroom shaped where the bent metal halves as they try to spring back to their original shape would lock the two halves together snuggly. The fact I used the hood as a base stand had zero impact of the poor snap together and hold properties of the hood. Now I’ll have to get a hacksaw blade and gently modify the studs so they can actually do their intended purpose. I shouldn’t have to do this.

Not quite as good quality as they use to be but it will still do the job.

"Flat" Reflectors were bent in the middle of the disks. Makes it impossible to put them together.
