Upgraded an HP 2017 Desktop w/ i3 - FAST & Big Improvement
Update after 1 year and 3 months. still works as new and FAST. Update after 8 months: still works as new and FAST. so far, the best modification I have done to this PC for speed. I will be content with the speed, and boot up/shut down times of this PC until something major breaks and I'm forced to replace. Update after 3 weeks: Still working perfectly. Really glad I upgraded. Fast! I have an 2018 HP w/ i3-7100 3.9ghz dual core desktop (Model: 580-010) with an 8k graphics card, 16gb of ram (upgraded), and SSD drives (boot and storage SSD drives). I don’t game. I mostly surf the web, watch HD videos, some light video/photo editing. I want the best image possible and I want the PC run FAST! Running windows 10, it’s already fast enough. Start up and shut down times lag a little compared to the newer PC’s with windows 11 that seem to start up/shut down almost instantly. Regarding the CPU swap, I looked into updating my Odense2-K motherboard however I had the newest version of the software so no BIOS update needed. I removed the old CPU, wiped the thermal paste off the heat sink w/ rubbing alcohol, laid down the new i7, applied a pea size amount of new thermal paste. Screwed back on the heat sink and fan. Booted up perfectly. I noticed immediately improved speeds overall. Windows loads 50% faster. Programs load much faster. It’s easier to browse the web because everything is INSTANT, and smooth. And I’m a "fast clicker" so I want it be super responsive. Again, the i3 wasn’t slow or sluggish, but there was a very slight delay. With the i7 chip, everything is SUPER fast. Also, I don’t game so I can’t comment on that but if you’re looking for a boost in your HP computer and know this CPU is COMPATIBLE and the price is around $100-$135, I’d highly recommended. $350 is too much. If you don’t have ssd’s yet I’d recommend that modification first. It’s pretty easy with Samsung SSD’s using their free software “magician” or something and a huge difference in speed. Hopefully this processor will last. It was an open box and came with only the chip. Looked pretty new to me. I’ll update the review as time passes.

The great song writer and astrophotographer!
Great processor working Pro Tools and Cubase. Fast and stable. Software synths and samples load fast, chews through projects be it keyscape or ominsphere, kontakt player etc... without sweat. This multi-tasking marvel, also works a charm in astrophotography, working as a tracking system controlling a apochromatic triple refractor telescope. This processor i7-7700, comes with the intel stock cooing fan which is more than sufficient to cool this processor. So you may not need to buy an aftermarket cooler.... i did... I chose to go with cooler master's g100m because it is gorgeous and silent in the studio, all the while, putting on a led light show in the studio while writing music and editing videos or tracking galaxies. it helps bring some color in the usually dark studio environment and it keeps the i7-7700 cool even under load while maintaining silence in the studio. For what I do, the intel core i7-7700 is a great song writer and a wonderful telescope tracking system. Thank you Intel!

Great CPU at a good price.
I purchased this for a system build to compete with a retail box. Needless to say a custom built system obliterated the retail system hands down. This was a great purchase at a great price. It is very fast and does not require much power for the output it provides. As with most Intel I7 CPUs, it performed admirably.

Shipping
The processor works great if you are updating midrange or slightly older gaming PC. The speed increased with minimal lag in shooter games. Temperature is consistent. What I would complain about is the long delivery time, potential delayed mail. It would buy it again based on affordability and quality, the default CPU cooler not as impressive compared to 3rd party coolers on market (Blame Intel). The packaging was tight with box and components snug and safe upon arrival.

Excellent Processor
I had a perfectly good running computer that was using an i5-2500K, which was an awesome processor. It never gave me any problems. However, the opportunity presented itself where I could resell that compute at a reasonable price and use that for an upgrade. I sold my computer in August 2017 and knew that Intel was releasing something soon. I was totally prepared to wait for the new processors to come out. I wasn't in the need for a new computer. I had other means of getting on the Internet and getting work done. To get to the point, after seeing the i7-8700K creep up in price day by day, I looked at other processors just for the fun of it. I saw that this 7700 was on sale for $259. Knowing that I would never come close to maxing out the 7700, why spend the extra money on the new 8700K? At the time I bought this processor, the 8700K was going for $419. Also knowing that the 7700 released earlier this year, I didn't see a major drawback to getting this processor. It has run very smoothly. I have not been disappointed going with this processor at all.

Wouldn't reccomend.
Wasn't new. IHS has multiple scratches and was not in a OEM box.

Worked Like A Charm
Real deal. In Intel packaging. Worked right out of the gate. Don’t forget to reset your CMOS or PC won’t pick up the new processor.

This line of CPU's is great for everything
These cpus are incredibly nice, Intel's cpus are working better than ever and they are amazing for anything from gaming to casual use, and even things like high end gaming and processing like video editing. All of these cpu's are incredibly easy to install so that shouldn't be a problem for people. It comes with a cpu fan so that's a nice bonus but it is good to know what you are going to use it for, if you are going to be doing a lot of demanding be sure to get a better cpu fan to keep your temperatures low. Over all these CPU's are great for gaming and general use, the power you get the price is definitely worth it if you are looking for high end performance across the board.
