Review: Great read! - As an English teacher, I am in love with this series. As a mom of a struggling reader, I thank God for this series. My son and I read this series because the information is good and presented in a way that sticks in your mind. I love this particular book because my friend has been to the Barrier Reef and it helps me understand what I could expect if I ever go. Review: Chock full of information! - This book, like others in this series, is full of all kinds of information. The reading level is geared mainly for middle school grades. The AR level on this one is 6.0. and it contains 105 pages as well as a timeline and a 2 sided fold out color map. I teach 3rd grade and my students love these books because they are interesting and full of drawings, but with a few exceptions, they have a hard time reading everything in it because of the higher level content and vocabulary. That being said, the books are very informative. Where is the Great Barrier Reef gives information about how it was discovered, how it was formed, the living things found there, and what is happening with the reef today. Other pages of information tell about the Aborigines, the Ice Age, boomerangs, and the first European settlers to name just a few. I think this is a great resource of information for our study of Australia. It's just a bit over most third graders heads.

love this series
These books are wonderful for the child with a great need to know more about the world around them and past events. They are written so the child can easily understand. And honestly amazon carries them for the best price I have found.

Not our favorite
I love this entire series (we have at least 30 titles in the series) but I wasn't really thrilled with this one. I was hoping to have more information about animals in the reef and some photos included in the book (instead of just a couple shots in the flimsy paper rip out map in the back). There is a lot of mention of climate change throughout the book, but I would definitely have preferred more information about the animals.

It is amazing that this book not only introductes the Great Barrier Reef but also related geographic information and history. Delicated illustrations are also good for imagination. Great series of Where is books.

Disappointed that a book on such a beautiful place has no coloured pictures or photos. 3stars because the information is good, but black and white wasn’t enough to keep my son engaged past the first few pages.
