Remote is a great addition to the Sony FDR-AX53. Makes controling the tripod and camera a one hand operation. Starting/stopping recording, adjusting zoom, triggering the grid for the LCD all close and convienent. Tripod is decent, compact when folded and extends to a decent height for most situations. My friend uses a Velbon video tripod (CX 687 and Videomate 538), which he prefers to use, and the handle was transferable to his tripod so he's very happy with this upgrade to his workflow when recording events.

The Sony VCT-VPR1 Remote Control Tripod is discontinued and I wanted a 2nd one because I swapped the arm onto a larger heavier tripod. Yet I love the compact Sony tripod for other uses and wanted an arm for it. This JJC tripod arm does indeed interchange exactly with the Sony as another reviewer said. The JJC tripod does come with an extra non-remote arm too. The JJC tripod can go considerably taller than the Sony, but is also a little taller to store, and the head is not nearly as smooth when tilting. So I'd say the JJC tripod is not a very good tripod if you are shooting video due to the tilt, but it is compact and can go tall, has 2 arms, a bag, has a Sony remote control, and the price is less than the Sony tripod. So it was certainly worth it and I'm glad I took the chance on it.

My grandson was so excited to get this tripod. He's been taking photos of High School activities, helping take wedding photos, and outdoor pics. This is just what he needed to add to his arsenal of camera equipment.

I bought this back in July, it's now September and one of the tightening screws have already broken. Expected this to hold up much better given the price and brand.
