Look, most of us read these gothic romance books to feel better not worse. This book does NOT deliver that. It is triggering in every possible way! If you have experienced rape or loss of a child DO NOT READ THIS. Furthermore, the spicy parts are mediocre at best, badly described so much so that you can’t really imagine what is happening, most of the time I just imagined her like a plank of wood while things were done to her. The age difference isn’t hot, it’s icky and could also be triggering to people. It’s a combination of Jane Eyre and Fifty Shades but done badly with tons of unnecessarily upsetting detail. Also any book that refers to genitals as ‘my sex’ is a no for me. Not to mention that it cost me 20 euros! Since when do paperback books cost that?It’s a no for me and I have to say I absolutely could have done with out the triggering, I expected some but there was no pay off at all. Nothing that made it necessary or worth it.

And don't get me started on immaculate gothic atmosphere and compelling setting at the dark castle. This story simply consumed me and I really can't reccomend this book enough 🤍 I can't wait to read more Keri's books soon!

It gives me Phantom of The Opera meets Crimson Peak vibes which are my favorites! The twists and turns in the plot of this book also give us a couple of insane mysteries to unravel! The whole time you're going between this breathtaking (literally) romance and some very dark and mysterious secrets.🎼In Master of Salt & Bones specifically, the romance was top tier. The sexiness, love, and passion was so perfect I was constantly wanting more. The banter between the main characters as well as the side characters was amazing. The relationships were so well developed which I loved with this being a standalone.🎼The quote above says a lot about dark romance in general. There is so much safety and healing found in it and that was so prevalent in this book. The amount of pain and trauma that both characters were put through in there past was very hard to get through but so worth it to watch them overcome on their own and together.🎼Overall I rated it 5⭐ 4🌶️. As I said, this book is very dark and has some intense kinks explored as well. The spicy scenes are perfectly spaced throughout and are very graphic. A dark gothic romance. It's the perfect blend of gothic, contemporary and dark romance. Lake's writing is beautiful and enchanting. I can't wait to read her other books 🫶check tw, it deals with a lot of issues 🖤

I absolutely loved the writing style of this book, I admired the character building and flashbacks. The story line hits you right in the heart. To feel the loss of a child, it was beautifully written, the grief of the mad son. My goodness. I really got into this book and could not put it down. I fell in love. I want to read all of Keri Lake’s other books now. Thank you for writing this novel!!It’s amazing how rumours can be spread and how easily it is for others to just judge without knowing the truth. Hiding behind lies, and deceit in family. A woman who thinks for herself and not what others say about a situation! Yes yes yes!!!
