Don't let the inexpensive price deter you.
I have purchased a number of web cams over the years and I must say this is a tremendous web cam. It is autofocus and self framing and makes a great image. Don't let the cheap price fool you. This is a great camera and is great for a laptop or on top of almost any monitor.

A solid webcam that works great with Mac OSX.
I recently purchased a M4 Mac Mini and needed a webcam for my desk. I don't do video conferencing often on my personal Mac, but do need to on occasion. I picked this up and it works great. I did need to use a USB A to C adapter which I had onhand. If you don't have one they are inexpensive and available on Amazon. I installed the Mac version of the Poly software and updated the camera to the latest firmware. It works great for web conferencing, photo booth, etc. The Microphone seems to do a good job based on reports from others I have chatted with. The camera itself is prety compact and is stable sitting on top of my monitor. It looks better than a generic webcam and even reminds me a little of the old Apple Eyesight cameras.

Great quality webcam !
The video is super clear and sharp, even in low light, and the audio picks up really well without needing an extra mic. The privacy shutter is a nice touch, and I love that it works seamlessly with Zoom and Teams. Easy to mount on my monitor and tripod. Perfect for meetings and online classes!

Good video quality, Great price, Bad microphone
Having used dozens of Poly and Plantronics products, including the Poly EagleEye Enterprise cameras & Poly Studio speakers, I had high hopes for this Studio P5 camera. Video worked without any hiccups out of the bag (it did not come in a box). There was no need to install any drivers, both my Mac and Windows computers recognized the camera right away; including the Zoom, Webex and Team apps. However, the microphone was a bust, not a "pro". No matter how loud I spoke, no audio was picked up by the microphone. Tapping on the microphone seemed to prompt the mic to detect a signal but no voice was detected. Even after updating the P5 to the latest firmware version 2.0 and restarting the camera, the microphone still did not work. Returned it.

Excellent Webcam, but One Shortcoming for 4.5 Stars!
I had to replace a webcam I purchased only a few months ago because it died. After reading several reviews (and asking my very knowledgeable son-in-law), I decided to buy the Poly Studio P5 and spend a little more than I had figured. It was well worth the extra few dollars! The camera was simple to install (with one exception; read on below). Downloading the Poly software from the website was easy, and the camera was working fine within a few minutes. The image is sharp, and the auto-adjust works quite well in bright, dim, and in-between lighting. If you're not using a green screen, you can eliminate background items you don't want on the video by using the zoom feature to crop the image. I've been told by those with whom I've used the webcam that the built-in microphone is also quite good and my voice was clear and easily understood. Three additional nice touches are the built-in privacy shutter, the hidden USB port at the bottom rear of the camera (under the removable shell), and the magnetic latching system which allows you to remove the camera from the mount if you need to show something specific. I would have given the Poly Studio P5 a five-star rating except for one thing: the length of the USB cable, which is all of 1.3 meters/4 feet 3 inches. Most webcams have a USB cable of 5 feet, and the 9 inches difference made the cable too short to reach my computer tower. While Poly does not recommend using an extension, the half-meter extension cable which I had was just the right length and works perfectly. Other than this one "shortcoming," I would recommend this camera without any reservations!

Software is awful
PROs 1. Image tracking works ... ish. 2. Audio fencing is very good. CONs 1. Software is poorly organized 2. Software is buggy: For instance, reports no network connectivity when every other app on my machine has no such problem 3. Software is Intel only; uses Rosetta on Apple Silicon, which is odd for an app that is graphics intensive 4. Software is not energy efficient, burning through 30-45% of a CPU even when not doing anything 5. Only doc icon that does not respond to background color events ... sometimes the icon just disappears if the background is light 6. Does not honor system color settings, for instance, for sliders and buttons. Feels like a Windows app that was quickly and poorly ported to Mac.

I bought this hoping that I would be able to have one device that could work both as a webcam and microphone, but the microphone was so bad I sent the P5 back. I don't know if I was doing something wrong, but I tried the P5 on two laptops with the same result; no audio pick up and when it did it was unintelligible. Plantronics have clearly tried to up date their marketing so they aren't seen as a supplier of low end products, and that it what convinced me to buy the P5, but the product was still low end quality. Avoid the Poly P5.
