It actually does fit around paddles
Perfect for kayaking. I swapped it the one that was on my tether so I could attach to paddles. It is only slightly larger than the stock one I had. Seems like good quality. Somebody was worried about the strength of only 23kn. Climbing/rescue carabiners are usually in the 22-24 range, so this works fine if you needed to set up a pulley or z-drag. 23kn is 5175 lbs. I do wish they would make a carabiner like this that was a locking one.

Useful for few situations
interestingly large gate opening. Low max strength (23kn?). Useful for few situations, yet still useful to me.
