The lock has no function, anyone can easily insert his/her hand, from the gap that the lock will allow, without unlocking.

These are great, sturdy, easy to use, TSA approved locks. I wasn’t sure what that meant but it basically means that TSA has a master key that will open these so if they need to get into your checked baggage they don’t have to damage your bag or your lock doing it. My daughter has traveled with these a lot with her snowboard gear and they have held up great! We’ve never had a problem with TSA.
