THOROUGHLY impressed with this trash can!
I don't write many reviews but I am THOROUGHLY impressed by this solid, affordable Step Trash Can! My wife and I LOVE the look. Everything about the Trash can is top notch! We choose NOT to order their brand of trash can liners with some hesitation since we were not sure how well our "Great Value" brand draw string liners would work. We were thrilled to see that those GV liners work GREAT! We have only had the trash can for a couple of days. If we notice any problems, I will update our review.

This is the perfect trash can
I hesitated to order this because I didn't want to spend a lot on a trash can. It is so worthwhile though and makes my life easier several times a day. Its very well constructed, attractive and locks to keep new puppy out. Garbage bags fit perfectly and never slide down so food doesn't fall into the bottom of the can. This isn't the sort of thing I usually get excited about but I love my new trash can! LOL

Well made! Works great! Durable! Locks perfectly!
Great garbage can! Sturdy and locks really well. It’s sometimes hard to unlock but for us it’s more essential that it’s hard to get into for little babies. Holds a full sized trash bag and is easy to clean or wipe down if needed.

Simple Human 50 Liter 13 Gallon Semi Round Step Trash Can, Mocha
My Beautiful Trash Can was there awaiting me on my door step during a Winter Blizzard ;-) The Trash can was well packaged and sealed along with a box of Tall Glad Trash Bags to try it out. Although, they do provide a few free ones for advertising that may cost a little more to use with the trash can, until you can get some at the local store (Glad Tall 13 Gallon Bags) and I would get them their instead of on Amazon because while convient, the price you can get them in the store is about the same as on Amazon, but with twice as many in the box. There are lots of good buys too when you buy the bigger boxes, no real need to get the Simple Human Bags, but it was nice to try them. The Can is really rugged. Took a nice grapple of the edges to lock the lid into place. The lock on front works really well too and I really like the step to lift up the lid. It is the first time I have ever had one like this. I chose the Moca Colored can. It was a good choice, others did too, so it was approximately $5.00 more, but I think the color compliments the kitchen better. I LOVE the Trash Can, and the best part is that it included is a 5 year warranty or the Simple Human Companies PROMISE ! Which guarentees you another new can if ever you should need one. I look at it like I have invested in a product that if it does faulter, I get double my money back in trash can. So now the can really only cost $25 which is almost what one in the store would cost, a cheap ole piece of crap, I'm very pleased with my new trash can, sometimes you need to pay a little more for a decent product and after counting the cost, the bags you can buy in the store, make sure they are the Tall 13 Gallon Trash Bags from Glad, you will be Glad you did, no pun intended. The bigger the box, the greater the saving on bags, has a lock to keep animals like Tapers out, Amber's Cat reviewed left on the Black Can although she bought her's through the company so she could get a Christmas Card with her's for her cat after assisting the Thanksgiving Turkey out to the livingroom likely to watch some TV and have a few chicken wings ;-) The bones left on the floor did the cat in. I think Tapers must have been a male cat ??? Keeps kids out of the can. So softly closes for the midnight raid of the fridge when hungry. It is nice and sturdy, 5 year warranty, a real Promise I say. Rest Assure, no one will give you a warranty like that if they don't think their can is up to snuff. Can't make money giving can's away, can you ? So I say get the can by all means, make it mocha because I do believe it will show less dirt. Love my can, something Great besides a Blizzard today. So happy to have a new trash can, a Simplehuman trash can ! Even if I bought it myself ;-)

Has been great until today
This trashcan started off great. Our dog stayed out of it. It holds a lot of trash without having to shove it down, it contains any smells, it has a foot pedal to open or you can prop it up and keep the lid open. I have love this!! It is pretty hard to open too, but we have dealt with it because it kept the dog out. However, somehow my dog was able to get the lid open today. I have NO CLUE how my 50 pound beagle did it. We left for ten minutes and the lock was still pushed in. We know for sure it was latched because we saw him sniffing around it before we left so we made sure the lid was locked. Hoping it doesn’t happen again because I’m not sure what we will do if it does. Our dog is a senior and only recently started getting in the trash. Overall it’s really a great trashcan. Maybe it was a fluke I don’t know. We have had no other issues and have had it for about two months.

Worth it. A standard for all trash cans
I can't believe I'm writing a review for a trash can. We've been through many. An 11 gallon mini can that always got snagged at the hinges when trying to empty it. A stainless steel one that was more hassle than it was worth. Finally we decided to plunk down the $50 for this on based on good reviews. I mean wow, it's a steep price for a trash can. Got ours in stone which is a little grayish taupe. I like the color a lot for minimalist approach to decorating. It also came with a trial pack of bags from the same company which are really heavy duty, but once those run out we'll try regular 13 gallon bags from the store. Several things that made me write this review. The hinge on the back secures the can against a wall and prevents wobbling or traveling when you step on it to open it. This was a huge problem with my other trash cans which travelled so much and constantly needed to be put back in its place. Was particularly irritating with the stainless steel one that clanked painfully against the wall every time the lid opened. Second is how it doesn't slam shut when you're done but closes slowly. It's not a big deal but it definitely adds to the 'wow this is a great trash can' factor. On a more practical level for cooks, the lid can be propped open indefinitely while you're peeling potatoes and carrots or plan to use it for extended periods of time. Since I mentioned having smaller trash cans before, it goes to say how wonderful it is to have a full sized can now where the bag doesn't spend more time outside the can than in while getting it full. And despite being full sized, because of the sleek design and color it isn't an eyesore. I also like that the light colors allows you to see any stains on the can that need cleaning which you wouldn't be able to do with darker colors. And on the matter of cleaning, I like how the step pedal is smooth and not ridged to make cleaning that easier too. Some cans have ridges which makes it harder to clean. Finally, the ultimate test for me was removing the bag. It didn't get snagged on the hinge like the it did with our first and it didn't require some complicated shake and pull dance from being overstuffed like it did with our stainless steel round one. Again I can't believe I'm saying this about a trash can but it came out like a dream. Zero hassle. Minimal ick factor and zero stress. This is how all trash cans should be.

I purchased this 7/13/2018, and it still works great
It’s been kicked, thrown down stairs, and knocked over countless times; yet it’s still just as functional now as it was when it first arrived. I don’t think I realized just how high quality simple human was before I bought it. I remember thinking it was a good price considering the functionality and aesthetics, and that maybe I could get 1-3 years out of it. But more than 5 years later, it’s still my daily (kitchen) trash can. That said, it does have scuffs, and some of the silver paint on locking mechanism has worn off some (probably from being kicked down the stairs a dozen times.) But for $50 this trash can is a steal for the quality. I know some will think that even $50 is too much for a trash can, but it’s certainly worth it. It’s ergonomic, it’s practical, and it always works as intended. It’s especially easy to clean too. Considering the build quality, functionality, and practicality of this trash can; I highly recommend it. It’s nice having such a well made trash can that is high quality, and that has a fashionable aesthetic. But best of all, is not having to concern yourself with taking the utmost care of it. You can just forget about it for 5 years, treat it extremely poorly, and it’ll still be working great. 👍 I only reviewed this now after I began renovations on my home, and I decided to check the date when I’d bought the can out of curiosity. After realizing the quality of it, I decided to buy a new simple human trash can. It’s the slightly bigger (55L) matte black step can. The new step can was $200, but after the rough 5 years that this wonderful trash can has spent with me, and my family, I have enough confidence in the quality that the $200 will no doubt be worth it.

Happy!
I’ve been using this simplehuman 13-gal semi-round can in my kitchen for about two weeks and it’s been fantastic. The pedal is smooth and requires a reasonable amount of force — not floppy but not stiff — which makes one-foot opening easy while holding something in both hands. The semi-round shape fits snugly against the wall and under my counter, which saves space compared to a round can. The liner rim clip is a small but huge quality-of-life feature: garbage bags stay hidden and don’t slip down when I toss heavier items. The finish is durable — after a few knocks it still looks new — and the secure slide lock is a good touch when transporting the can or keeping pets/kids from opening it. A couple small things: the plastic lid feels lighter than the metal versions I’ve owned, so if you’re after that premium steel look this isn’t it — but functionally the lid seals well and helps contain odors. Overall great value for the price and a solid, reliable kitchen can. Pros: stable pedal action, space-saving semi-round shape, bag-clip system keeps liners tidy Cons: plastic lid feels less premium than stainless options One-line summary: Practical, space-saving, and well-designed — a great 13-gal can for everyday kitchen use.
