My kids love it
I do a lot of home electronics projects and my kids want to get involved but a soldiering iron etc is a bit beyond them right now. This kit however does the job. While there are no instructions in the box there is a starter guide and 8 lessons for your child to try out to build various things with their kit. They do need to be downloaded and viewed but I did not encounter any issues like others did. I do wish it just had a printed book but thats the nature of things these days. Many electronics kits I have recently purchased don't have books either only QR codes. Overall though this was a great way to get them started and they are having fun with it. Reccomended!

You'll need time for the projects
I don't know why I thought we could knock this out in a couple of minutes. You definatly need to set time aside to setup your parts and read or watch the steps. We were able to find some videos of a similar kit on youtube and watched it a few times before reading through. That said, my kid had a great time with the magnets. She's a bit underage for this at the age of 5, but I could not wait and so we gave it a shot any how. All the circuitry snaps together magnetically which was really great. So you didn't have to worry about hooking it up right or anything as it only fits one way like tiles. We got through one of the simpler projects and as challenging as it was for me, we had a lot of fun. My kid had ideas on how to use or play with the parts that would render them unfunctional so I decided it needs to pack up and shelf until we have time and patience for the next project as we have a wee 1 year old who is eager to get his hands on anything his sister has. I'd recommend this for 8+ for sure.

Good gift for the new coder in your life
This is a great introduction into circuits. We used the Sphero ball when it first came out and enjoyed the app used to program it. This littleBits starter kit really is a starter kit. It has several bits to get you started with projects, but Sphero offers other add on kits to expand your project options. The pieces fit together intuitively. They have magnets and will only fit together the 'right' way. They are color coded by function. The coding app is straight forward and easy to learn. This was a perfect introduction for a 8-9 year old into the basics of circuitry.

No instructions
Littlebits has gone downhill since being acquired. No instructions on how to make anything with the kit. Scanning the QR code takes you to a site with broken images and links that don’t work. The servo motor overheated and stopped working the first day.

A great entry into circuits.
This at home circuit kit is a ton of fun. It is very cleverly designed and ideal for young learners. The types of parts are color coordinated and labeled. Easy to know what something is. Also, the circuit parts connect with magnets. The magnets only stick of it will form a proper connection. So, if it is not working you know you have it oriented incorrectly. The one thing I would change about this set is to have a 1-2 printed ideas so that a kid can build without needing a phone for the QR code. The package did come damaged as a result of Amazon’s delivery. No fault of the seller. Amazon should really have this in a box with bubble wrap. If you are looking for a unique gift idea or an entry into the world of circuits, this set is just rig it for you.

Great potential, but no instructions to make the advertised projects
I used some sphero products in my classroom 6 years ago, but this is my first experience with the LittleBits. It says it is a starter kit, but it doesn't include information on how to expand the kit or even how to make the advertised projects (or any projects). There is a code to scan, but that wasn't even helpful! This has the potential to be a neat thing, kind of like Snap Circuits, but for a bit older kids. Advertised for ages 8 and up, which seems about right if the kid could figure out what to even do with it!

Love Sphero!
I can't get enough of these little bits! Even though this is the starter kit, I've grouped it with my more advanced kit and created some amazing robots. These are easy to use and adaptable to more advance Sphero littlebits.

Very giftable, but kind of limited in what you can do
This Sphero littleBits at-Home Learning Starter Kit is a great way to get kids started on thinking about how to design circuits and circuit logic. The pieces that come with the set are sturdy and simple, allowing kids to explore putting them together in a couple of different orders and choosing some variables based on DIP switches. The kit is fairly limited in what you can do, with just one motorized part and two control pieces, but I like how it gets the imagination working. This feels like a giftable kit that invites other kits in the near future, meaning more sales for Sphero. I definitely look forward to finding some more kits and allowing my kid to create interesting circuits in the future!
