I would recommend this book to alum and people considering going to Brown, especially those interested in studying creative writing. The chapters are short and captivating, it's a quick read. It left me impressed with Brown alum who have become well-known published authors. It brought back memories of familiar places and made me want to get in touch with friends I haven't seen in a long time.

Disappointing
As a Brown alum from the 1970s, I found some of the stories very poignant and evocative. However, a number of others were surprisingly poorly written and seemed more designed to describe the author's successes in later life.

You Don't Have to Be A Brown Grad to Love the Brown Reader
Even if you never went to Brown (I didn't), you'll enjoy the Brown Reader. It's a fun romp of essays from renowned writers (yes, they are all Brown Grads) reminiscing over their college days. So, get this book if you ever went to college or are thinking of going one day.

Highs and lows
I bought this book because it included an essay by Marilynne Robinson that I wanted to read. Her essay made the whole book worth it. Some of the others seemed superficial and/or juvenile, but if I had been a Brown alum myself I might have felt more kindly about their inclusion.
