Program Evaluation and Performance Measurement: An Introduction to Practice Second Edition

Good and pretty big material but too much formal and sophisticated explanations. Basically works for people with some experience and who has enough time and assistance.

Very boring and long book, and it rambles a lot. However if this is your area of expertise it has good info, good diagrams, and a great index, and definitions in the back.

Very impressed with this book. Yes it's dense, the chapters are long, and sometimes the concepts are complex and challenging. But it's almost always clear, with interesting relevant examples, and fairly lively in its writing - of all the textbooks I've had for my Masters in Public Administration so far, it's one of the best and most useful - I can envision referring to it often in my work.

I enjoyed this book and all the real life examples it gave. However, I had a "semester rental" that did not even get me through my 7 week long summer course. I was charged an extension fee that was half the original rental cost and almost charged another one because my class ended less than a week before the first extension was up.

The book within two days in perfect condition. I don't like the content much, but the product was perfect.

I am so happy that I didn't have to pay full price for this item. It only came with small bumps and bruises but it was totally ok for the price that I paid for it!

I ordered this book for my studies for English language and literature, and it was very useful. It learns us about the procedures of evaluation, which each educator shoul know.

I needed this for class, so it was a mandatory book. This review will hopefully give people a better idea of how to best use it.To start, it is wordy. I come from a medical science background, where garrulous texts are shunned. This book is wordy. The only redeeming quality is that it is quite easy to skim through and highlight keywords and points.Organized decently well - in fact, many of the terribly wordy paragraphs can be skipped altogether as the introductory blurb covers concepts in enough detail for a masters level class.Concepts re: evaluation of programs, logic models, experimental design are fine, and well-suited for a bachelor or masters level class.

As a longtime practicing evaluator, I can only evaluate this book from this perspective. I found the book to be not only an excellent review of older material but also very good summary of recent developments. The dual treatment of performance measurement and program evaluation works very well. Hopefully, practitioners will be able to carry it forward into practice.

I have only had time to dip into this book as needed to support some work I am doing, but it is exactly the resource I hoped for when I ordered it. The fact that it has not let me down as a professional support has already made the expense worth it. I am moving from a background in public sector performance measurement toward program evaluation, and it is ideal. Highly readable, too. Only reason I did not give it 5 stars is I haven't read the bulk of it, so feel unqualified to do so.
