I see way too many negative comments thinking these are glow sticks for the 4th of July type events especially reviews about the red sticks. THESE ARE MEANT TO EMIT VERY LITTLE LIGHT FOR A REASON, red light is easier on the eyes which when walking around at night it means you keep more of your ability to see at night. These aren’t meant to be a significant source of light, the best uses for these are reading at night or seeing around inside your tent. Again these are not meant to be bright on purpose, please understand when buying that these are mainly meant for survival/camping and emergencies not for children to play with.

Each chem light is individually packaged as pictured and comes boxed up, mine was pretty beat up in transit but the individual packaging definitely helped protect the lights from activating or getting damaged. I used them for a multi-day sim and they functioned flawlessly, they take a little bit of force to snap the internal vial, but light up very quickly and brightly. They also work great for lighting up a tent at night, although you might want to retain the packaging, as they do get fairly bright and short of stuffing it back into its packaging or stuffing it under something, you'll still see the glow. They lasted me the full 12 hours as stated, although past the 8-9 hr mark, they lose a significant amount of their brightness. Overall, they worked great and I still have 8 chem lights left from last year!

Pack of 10 ordered via Contact Left Limited, delivered two days later. Genuine Cyalume products with a 4+ year use-by date (it is Feb 23 now and the use -by date is 06/27). Tested one: It took some force to snap the internal capsule, which is a good protection against accidental activation. Good red light visible from afar as a marker. Illuminates an area of about one meter. When held close to a page it is sufficient to read with. Started to fade after 13 hours. In my opinion, if you need one for a first aid kit, find a white one - there are high intensity 30 minute versions for such uses. If you need a general light, the red are best and do not affect your night vision quite so much. I only ever use Cyalume after I found that the cheaper products occasionally simply did not work when I needed them
