Works great, but cord is too short
The metal mounting plates are not designed to match 1-1/2" ceiling joist width. I used 3/4" plywood cut 6" x 36" for the install. (See photo) I opted to replace to cord which was included in the kit, with 550 paracord. This allows me to lower the roof rack completely to the floor. Since the paracord is thinner (but as strong if not stronger) it does not cause problems when spooling. Make sure your cord is the same length on each side after its tied to ensure an even lift. The physical install can be tricky. It's definitely easier with a helper. Pay close attention to the direction of your ceiling joists, unless you're using a full sheet of plywood, then it's a non-issue. Once installed, it functions great. I'm impressed at how easy it works. Even though I didn't like the price, I'd buy it again.

Works as intended
Works as intended no complaints. Just make sure you read the instructions and other reviews if you need assistance. I bought 3 2x4x8 and cut them to 6 feet in length. Bought 50 wood/decking screws at 3 and 1/2 inch’s and that seemed to do the job.

Time consuming install but great product!
Works just like advertised. Decided on this one due to the other reviews and how close it allowed the cargo carrier get to the ceiling. I want to mount above garage door when open to hind it as much as possible. Installation was time consuming but not overly difficult. Gave it 4 stars due to installation but function of product and ease of use is 5 stars all day!

Very good product. The lift was easy to put up.
The product...Great. a little pricey. Does the trick. After you attach boards to ceiling, just mark the holes with cardboard layout Thule sent in box. Had to buy new rope, mine was damaged. That was okay, just spent $8 on Amazon, got some more. The hardest part was the layout on boards on ceiling to attach lift. My rating, 5 stars, works great, and does the job.

Second Hand Product
This commentary is not a negative review about Thule's MultiLift Storage System, as I am a big fan of their products. This is about Amazon services and their sellers that too often don’t meet acceptable business standards. I received this Thule product delivered by UPS this evening, and it appears that it has been recycled more than once. It's not a NEW product from Thule. I received a USED product. The box has tears inside and out. The packaging (or I should say lack of packaging) is in poor shape and the materials / items in the box are disorganized, partially assembled and very observably used. The instructions are wrinkled up, and that's an easy giveaway to it being used. Nothing in the box is packaged properly for this $350 Thule product. There is a risk of selling a used product to the buyer who is assembling such a product should it fail. This is UNACCEPTABLE! I don’t know about other's experiences with Amazon, but I see a high percentage of items I purchase from Amazon that are previously used / worn / mishandled or damaged items (to varying degrees), which had clearly been returned by customers and resent out to Amazon buyers. It seems to be a common practice that some Amazon warehouses do not typically send back returned items to the seller for replacements or refurbishing. They just put it back on the warehouse shelf and resend those products right back out to the next unsuspecting buyer. Occasionally, I have ended up keeping some of the "used" items that I purchased to avoid the hassle of returning them if they are in mostly usable shape. It appears that returning used items has become a condoned practice at Amazon. Perhaps they should be called "eBay" instead of Amazon so we can at least bid and negotiate the price down on some of these obviously used products. I'm beyond disappointed that we are purchasing used products at the same price as brand-new products. I my opinion, you're better off purchasing products, such as this high-end Thule product, directly from the manufacturer, if possible, so to avoid the frequent frustration of buying used or damaged products from Amazon.

Solid Storage Lift
As others have stated, installation was a little more time consuming as attachment points are not set up for more common 24” OC truss spacing. This can be overcome with a simple wooden frame. That aside, this lift is very solid and operates smoothly. It is supporting my Thule Motion XT XXL. I didn't want second thoughts of the safety of my family walking beneath it. Many thanks to other reviewers posting their installation photos and mounting ideas. I used 3 cedar 2x4’s cut to approximately 6’6”. They run perpendicular to the cargo carrier and were spaced using the template. I used 4”x1/4” SPAX power lags to pick up the trusses.

Locks too fragile for an expensive and critical luggage rack like this
Very sleek, installed on van's roof but the four clamps can be finicky if they "fall apart" when not set on the bottom slots. There is a small metal cube that sits between the screw and claws which allows them to open and close. Without it you cannot work the claws and this cube can easily be displaced when in storage. Have to keep the claws "engaged" at all times on the bottom of the rack even when uninstalled. The lock keys are way too fragile, already broke one. Locksmith easily removed the lock to allow me to open it. Either get a better key or don't buy this (cannot open/close without key to unlock/lock). Also, I did get the Thule garage ceiling pulley system to store the rack when not installed. The rope is too short, when "completely down" still sits above my van's crossbars and has to be manually dropped by sliding the ropes off the front and back. Do yourself a favor and get a longer rope (and some help installing the pulleys).

It is very easy to use and well constructed for the job. Yes, you need additional wood to mount to as the mount point don't layout well for 16" centred joists. Yes, the included rope is too short, it only lowers the lifted item down about 6 feet. This is fine if you can lift a roof top box right off your roof of you vehicle but if using it as a multi lift and lifting a kayak, the rope is way too short.
