Best litter box EVER!
First off, I have 6 cats..4 Siamese (3 male, 1 female), a neurotic Havana Brown rescue boy, and a mad Siamese cross (bossy female), I'll tell you, it's taken some experimentation to get their toileting just right! After a couple of years of using pine pellets (horse bedding), we changed. The horse pellets were very cheap, and you just put around two cups down. I would remove the solids and flush them, then, when the pellets started to crumble, I would change the trays out, adding the pee-infused pine powder to my compost heap. I have only ever used covered trays and the cats have never known anything else. 18 months ago, one of my male meezers started weeing inappropriately. Medically, he had minor urinary tract issues, which were resolved with Tinkle Tonic and extra, syringed water. BUT he still peed in corners, up the wall (definitely marking behavior), and it was driving us crazy. I kept our boxes spotlessly clean but it made no difference. So.. I decided to forgo the compost benefits and we tried different litters. He stopped peeing outside the box almost immediately! However, two of the boxes we had, which had locating tabs either side of the box, at the join, were leaking through the seam (a problem when you have one cat that stands up to wee!). Also, when you tried to lift the box with the hndle, the top came apart from the bottom so it was definitely time for a change! BTW, the scented litters are a no-no! I developed a skin rash AND respiratory issues whenever I made contact with the darned stuff. We tried the REALLY expensive stuff Dr Elsey's Cat Attract but it didn't clump that well, and worked no better than the "dirt" cheap stuff we now use. "Peerless" Pets Scoopable Cat Litter" which comes in 14lb jugs for $4.00 from Big Lots. It clumps wonderfully and seems to be a natural deodoriser. With 6 cats, there is only a little tracking. We have now replaced ALL the old boxes with these large boxes from Van Ness. We HAD tried the Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box from Amazon, but I have now dumped it after only 5 months as it stinks the place up, even after scrubbing. The boy who pees standing up. He hasn't been able to pee over the top of the entrance of this Van Ness box yet! I find that the super-smooth finish wipes down wonderfully but, whatever you do, don't use any abrasive scrubbers or cleaners. For cleaning and deodorising, I have an old "wipes" container that I 1/2-fill with water, then add 2.5 ml of pure Thyme oil. I shake it up and then push in around 30 of the "cloth-like" kitchen towels.. you know, the ones that tear in two pieces? I do that before dropping them in. I give the container a good shake, and, hey presto, an eco- and kitty-friendly cleaning wipe that is really cheap if you buy your Thyme Oil in 250 ml bottles like I do :^) BY the way, I DID remove the cat-flaps on these, as always, as my cats refuse to use them, and bliss.. zero odor, no inappropriate peeing.. life is good :^)

Great Value
Easy to assemble, extra large size is perfect for cats of all sizes. Enclosure keeps litter from going all over the floor as well as keeping orders down. Easy to remove the lid to clean inside.

The BOX is great! Just watch your sellers.
We bought this box when our old one was getting too worn in the bottom to even clean thoroughly. It was the same brand (Van Ness), and we were happy with the quality of our old box, so looked for a new one by the same company. First off, this is a very big box. Ask the bruise on my shin, as it took me a while to remember there was a larger box in the hallway! LOL Our two cats share a box, and this thing is really truly big. There is plenty of room for our cats to stand up, turn around, lean, write their memoirs or read a magazine while in there. I'll post photos of our 17.5-pound cat exploring it before we filled it up. For the first batch, I filled it with half of their current batch of litter (meaning the one in the old box, with some crumbs of yesterday's business) and half new to get them used to it. We did NOT use the swinging door, both because of our box's location (in a small hallway next to a bedroom door - we have a small place), and because our big cat is skittish of things touching him. We think he'd freak out if the door swung back on his fur, and he might not use the box again. I kept the door, but really doubt we'll use it. The translucent isn't as bad as I thought. By that, I mean I thought we might have to see everyone doing their business, as well as what business they did, because of the transparency. As it turns out, the main thin you see is a shadow in the box, and the litter level. That's about it. I think both cats enjoy the extra room, because even our bigger cat can stand up if he wants to without a problem. The entrance is higher than our old box (which sloped down a little). This might be a problem if you have a cat with limited mobility, but for now, it isn't a problem for either of our cats, aged 5 and 6. I like the higher entrance, because we have a LOT less litter being kicked out now. It's a win-win. Now, I know this isn't the place to review sellers, but I have to mention that if you buy this from PetCareRX, be prepared to not only wait awhile for the box, but cross your fingers on the condition it arrives in. Amazon has spoiled me to expect great customer service and careful packaging. I forget sometimes that that is not the standard for all sellers. Our box arrived in really bad shape. The one piece of tape at the top was mostly popped off. One hinge was missing entirely. It wasn't a huge problem for us, but if it was in a place where locking the lid was essential, we would have had a problem. It was really surprising to see how carelessly this item was packaged and shipped. Shame on our seller...not that I did not ding any stars based on the seller. but, Van Ness makes a great cat box! I did ding them one star because of the iffy quality of the plastic. This is MUCH MUCH thinner plastic than our last box. Our other one, you could lift the bottom even if it was full of litter and a cat. This one bends easily, and would never hold up to being picked up with litter in it. It isn't flimsy, per se, but isn't the same thick box we previously had. I would never try to pick up the box with litter in it. I was actually surprised by how thin the plastic was, given the price tag for it. I kept our old one for an extra week, in case this one died right away. So far, despite feeling extremely thin, it has held up to the cats jumping and scratching without a problem. I'd doubt we get the long life we got from our last litter box, but so far, we've had less mess at the litter box location, both cats are using it without any problems at all, and it seems easier to clean. (We do just lift the lid off the box and scoop from there.) It might simply be that our old one had become scratched and pitted from use and old age, and this one is still nice and smooth. Either way, we are glad we got this size, and I was happy to see that we got a similar color as in the listing.

Does what it's supposed to do!
This is a pretty large litter box. Which is great, since I have a pretty large cat, and I don't think he's finished growing yet. This works perfectly. It works best when the door is on. I say this only because my cat has removed the door a few times, and during those times it became pretty obvious we had a litter box in the house. With the door on, you'd never know there's a litter box even in the house!! The door is not easily removed. I just have a large cat that is still a kitten, and he gets a notion every now and then to 'redecorate', so the door comes off when he's ripping into/out of the litter box/through the house. He is Maine Coon size, appears to be part Maine Coon.... is an orange tabby... For now the litter box does fit him perfectly.

UPDATE. Good, but could be better.
Update: I’ve now grown to hate these. The doors now fall off when the boys go in or out. Being in a cabinet, they aren’t racing out, so it’s not their doing. There are actually 6 corners in the box. Yes, 6. If you have a wee one that likes to pee in the corners, you get 6 to clean. No doubt put there to save $$ on the amount of plastic needed to make the box rigid. Lastly, the point at which the top and bottom come together is at the exact height where our boy pees. It goes out the crack, into the locks and out into the cabinet. The locks are wearing and locking them repeatedly is an exercise in frustration. I’m now looking for new litter boxes and these are so awful, I will probable throw them in the trash rather than donate them to the local shelter. I like the folks there way to much! One of our male cats has started standing up to pee, so we have 2 boxes. This has curbed that although he pees against the side right at the joint of the top to bottom. So far, nothing has escaped the box, and half a paper towel to wipe the lid is fine. 2 things that need to be improved. The 4 hinges on the lid for the doors are such thin plastic that the doors pop off if the boys race out too fast, or if their collar catches it. I find the at least 1 door off everyday. I imagine that having to pop them back in so often is going to wear the hinge so they won’t stay at all. Spend a few cents more on more plastic there and it wouldn’t be an issue. The locks are finicky. Even after seating the lid and flipping the locks, they’ll pop off like it wasn’t latched properly. Seems to be with 2 specific latches, so I’m guessing it’s a defect. Our boxes are in a custom cabinet, so I have to pull them out and put them back. The popping lid is annoying when it happens, but not as frustrating as the doors falling off. The handles are strong enough, when the latches are locked, that I can pick up the box and put it back in the cabinet while full of litter. That’s a bonus. Overall, it does what I need it to do, but fear that they will eventually fail to the point I have to replace them. Shame.

Mr. McGregor's Loo Review: A Rabbit's Regal Take on the Giant Enclosed Cat Pan
Dear esteemed members of the whiskered community, Today, I, Mr. McGregor, venture beyond the realm of my usual escapades to discuss a rather peculiar discovery - the Van Ness Pets Odor Control Extra Large, Giant Enclosed Cat Pan with Odor Door, Hooded. Yes, you read that right. It seems my human, in a moment of creative madness, decided that what works for the feline might just suit the leporid. At first glance, one might question the suitability of such an apparatus for a creature of my refined stature. However, I must hop to its defense and say, it's quite the luxurious lavatory. The grandeur of its size! It's like a palace for poop, a mansion for micturition. I can hop in, do a little twirl, and still have room to ponder the mysteries of the universe. The "Odor Control" feature is no mere boast. It's as if my contributions to the pan are whisked away to an alternate dimension where smells are banished. The Odor Door, though designed for those of a more feline persuasion, serves as a splendid privacy screen for a gentleman such as myself. And the hood! Ah, the hood. It's like having my own private chamber where I can conduct my business away from the prying eyes of the world. It's the sort of discretion one appreciates in these modern times. However, I must express a slight reservation. The entry, designed for creatures of a more agile nature, presents a bit of a hurdle for a dignified hopper like me. A more rabbit-friendly entrance would be a welcome improvement. In conclusion, while the Van Ness Pets Giant Enclosed Cat Pan may seem an unconventional choice for a rabbit, I find it to be a rather splendid adaptation. It offers privacy, odor control, and the sort of spacious elegance that a rabbit of my standing deserves. With a twitch of the nose and a flick of the tail, Mr. McGregor

SOOOO DISAPPOINTED - Once Great Quality Box Now Is NOT!!!!
I should have paid better attention to the other reviewers but my old box cracked in the lid where it was going to be dangerous for my kitty and I needed a new one fast. I have been purchasing this same Van Ness hooded box (1 in blue and 2 in white) for the last 10 years. We clean it every day. We lift it full of litter to slide it out from under the counter where it lives, and remove the top to scoop every night before re-securing the lid with a tactile and audible click of the latches, lifting it while full of heavy clumping litter, then sliding it back into its home. We take it outside and let it soak with dawn dish soap in the sun every 30 days to clean it completely and remove any odor. It is treated quite roughly and each of the previous models have held up for 3 plus years of this abuse. I am sooooo disappointed in this latest blue version. They appear to have removed a lot of the plastic thickness and the entire box is quite flimsy. As others have stated, the lid tabs don't even clip on correctly. I can feel the lip of the box bend as I carefully slide it back under the counter (being sure not to lift at all as the latch will pop off). I will be absolutely shocked if this is still in tact in 3 months. I hate how many companies are taking once great and durable products and reducing them to junk now. I don't know if they are just trading on previously strong reputations as long as possible to cash in or if it is the push to remove plastic for environmental and cost reasons, but if I have to buy a new box every few weeks, it isn't satisfying either of those customer side requirements.
