General Jim's Red Diesel Cargo Train Building Blocks Set - 1000+ Piece City Series with Automatic Running System, Railway Tracks, and Truck - L Gauge - Compatible w/Major Brick Brand Tracks - GJ-EBRT

I was initially wary of buying a non-Lego set, but my desire for more trains (Lego really only makes a couple) led me to General Jim (and you should check their website out too, it's incredible) and I have to say I am very impressed. I really love this design, and it came together in just a few hours. The instruction are a bit cryptic, and I had to go back a couple times because I missed a step, but nothing you can't handle easily. I also was easily able to modify the design to slip a new Lego Move Hub into the slot provided for the older drive system. I also swapped out the train motor to the newer Lego version no problem. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and will very likely buy another General Jim set. THE BLOCKS: So, they are clearly not Lego, but they are very well made, sturdy and injection molded, not 3-D printed or some other, cheaper method. They stick together quite well, with only slightly less finish than the real thing. I am pretty impressed with these bricks, and they stick to real Legos well. The substitute parts I put in were stock Lego and they all meshed flawlessly. THE TRACKS: Probably the least finished part of the set, some segments are not super flat, but overall they are not a terrible addition to your layout. A bit tight at the joints, and some rough transitions. OVERALL: Still a 5-star set. I would and will buy from this vendor again UPDATE: I got the switch house and am equally impressed with this set!

This was a pretty good purchase and it was what I expected based on the description. There was 1 brick that was malformed and I needed to replace it with one from extra parts, but other than that it was a good build. Instructions were pretty good and it worked well. I have wanted a train for years, so I got this one as a first timer. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely consider getting another General Jim product in the future.

Price point was about a third of what Lego would charge and you cannot tell the difference from looking at the parts. We did have a problem with battery pack that powered the engine and lights straight out of the box, but customer service was swift in responding with a replacement unit within a couple of days. Once that was swapped out, the train worked perfect.

This was a gift for my son for Christmas. During assembly we discovered a total of 59 missing pieces. I currently have an email into the company and I hope they correct the issue. If they do I would happily buy their products in the future because the set is nice and easily comparable to lego brand for half the price. If they do not correct the issue I will not purchase from them in the future in fear that they will also be missing pieces.

Quality is mediocre, instructions are poor quality and colours dont match well to bricks. Disappointing compared to other generic brick suppliers.

I really liked this model of diesel locomotive, it looked better than Lego brand to me even. unfortunately when it arrives the battery pack would not work. In less than a week the company had a new pack sent out to me and it works great. this is a pretty nice set for off brand lego. the over track crane is really nice. edit: they even followed up on the replacement part.

The bricks aren't good quality and don't stick well but the biggest issue is bad QC. A build it yourself toy like this must have good quality control. The box didn't appear damaged but was missing several pieces and some steps were clearly missing in the instruction booklet looking at the images. A complete waste of time and effort.

We did not have any pieces missing. Instructions were good and a kid can't tell the diff. Great deal.
